Recent CLEP Tutoring Session Notes
I had her go over content from her flashcard set she purchased and note concepts or cards she had trouble with. We went through those concepts pertaining to chemical foundations and basic biochemistry. She is bright and is understanding the material and asking questions as she goes through it all. She will continue on to the cells, enzymes, and chemical transformations sections next when we meet on Wednesday.
Today we reviewed present, preterite, and present participle forms of verbs with special attention to verbs listed on the student's study vocab lists. Her test scores continue to improve and she has advanced through the second phase of her internship application process, which is very exciting!
We went over some basics of chemistry today using an AP book as a study guide. Today, the student did not take any notes as the session was more of a broad review. We plan to continue meeting at a bookstore in order to use resources provided there, and I encouraged the student to start self-studying so that the sessions can be used most efficiently to answer his more difficult questions.
Today, we decided which chapters we would cover in the duration of our time together to prepare the student for her class. We briefly went over the introductory algebra review section. Then we went through the first three sections of chapter one including graphs, domain, range, factoring and some properties of functions. She was very comfortable with the material and had strong prerequisite knowledge.
We covered the chapter of biomolecules today. We went over the concepts in this chapter and we finished the assigned homework. Our next scheduled meeting date is Sunday.
The student is preparing for a CLEP Precalculus test, and we have a large amount of material to cover in a short time. Today, we looked at the outline of topics to expect on the test, and we began to attack those topics one by one. We talked about function notation, domain, linear functions, equations for circles and ellipses, quadratic functions, absolute value, and solving systems of equations. If we can relax and keep at it we can get through all of this material and prepare her to pass this test. For next time, I will organize topics into 10-minute blocks and prepare practice problems.
