AP US Government Tutoring FAQ
If you are taking Advanced Placement (AP) US Government and Politics, having to learn the details of the United States government's many interrelated branches at the federal, state, and local levels can certainly seem intimidating. However, knowledge of governmental structure and policy can prepare you for more advanced courses in political science, history, or public policy, as well as for governmental careers. Such knowledge can also help you to understand the political happenings reported in the news. Furthermore, succeeding in an AP course and doing well on its corresponding exam can help you impress colleges with your transcript and even earn college credit while still in high school. If you're having trouble in your AP US Government class, Varsity Tutors can help you to connect with a one-on-one AP US Government and Politics tutor who can help you bring yourself up to speed in this complicated but important subject.
Your personal tutor understands that no two students are going to have precisely the same concerns about their AP US government class, even if they're taking the exact same class. You are influenced by your strengths, weaknesses, and concerns, as well as prior knowledge and experience. Whether you need to be able to articulate exactly what the house reps do, write a report on the history of political parties from the United States' early elections, or memorize all of the amendments that have been made to the Constitution, a talented AP Government tutor can bring organization and efficiency to your studies to help you learn whatever concepts you personally find to be challenging.
Your tutor can draw up a learning plan just for your AP US Government tutoring sessions focused on addressing the topics that confuse you the most and help you prepare for projects, exams, and other challenges your class presents. AP courses are notorious for being fast paced and covering a great deal of content, but a tutor can help you approach your studies in an organized fashion. As you follow your learning plan in each tutoring session, you may be surprised at how quickly you can master material that you once found confusing, with the individual attention of an expert. You're free to work at your own pace in your tutoring sessions and can spend as much or as little time on any particular concept that gives you trouble. You don't need to waste time reviewing concepts you already understand, either. Additionally, when you need to start preparing for your AP exam, your tutor can help you work through practice problems and prompts modeled after those you'll encounter on the exam and teach you test-taking strategies specific to each part of the test.
Personal AP US Government tutoring is convenient as well as custom tailored to your specific needs. Your tutor can travel to hold sessions when and where it works best in your schedule. Recent AP US Government Tutoring Session Notes
The student is going to be having an exam this week so the entire session was spent reviewing for that. I helped her create a study guide and then tested her on the information. It was a successful session and the student seems very prepared for the exam.
The student had to study for his exam in Religion so we read through the assigned pages and I asked him to write out keywords and their definitions. This made it easier for him to retain the information and give the corrects answers when I quizzed him. We also completed his Social Studies homework where he had to answer some discussion questions about religion, schooling, and food during the Colonial Era. I emphasized the fact that he needed to write his answers in his own words and use complete sentences. He was studying for an exam and I quizzed him on keywords as well. Next I went over the math homework that he had already completed.
We worked on her social studies section for the week; took notes and read aloud. She showed me her paper we worked on together and she got 87.5 out of 90.
We also read the story together for comprehension and fluency.
The student wrote four paragraphs summing up our research on King Tut. We are compiling a rough draft at this point. I helped by typing his writing into bullet points, so he has all of his notes translated into decent sentences and put into a rational outline. Next he has to decide what things we will need to add to make good transitions between sentences, maybe adding new material. He also might decide to drop some of the facts in the outline. He has until Monday to do this, so we can work on a full rough draft.
The student and I worked on his Math and Social Studies, in preparation for 2 upcoming tests. I urge him to review the definitions we made, and remember to make the connections regarding money and power, and their importance in American Imperialism. Memorization is only the beginning, making connections is the key to success.
