Ever since bringing refugee children up to and beyond grade-level mathematics while tutoring in the mid-2000s, I have always been motivated by a spirit of service to community, society, and humanity at large. Teaching and tutoring is one small but essential part of that ethos.

As a child, when people asked what I wanted to be, I told them unflinchingly, "a teacher." A lot has changed since then, but my appreciation for learning and a love of helping others is still here. I have tutored friends, siblings and classmates in various subjects, both as a formal, paid tutor and as a friendly volunteer.Toward the end of my sophomore year in high school, for instance, I led a study group among my fellow Regents chemistry students. It had been clear at this point in the semester that almost everyone lacked confidence in their ability to pass the class or the Regents exam. A couple of days in advance, I got some of my classmates to sign a sheet with their name and contact information, and texted everyone to discuss availability. Compared to the entire class, it was only a small handful of us who showed up at the school library; still, we made the most of the opportunity, and it felt great to take a position of leadership in order to encourage others. While attending New York University, I had experience helping fifth graders with writing and math as part of a work study tutoring program called America Reads and Counts. I fell in love with them the moment they greeted me with "Good morning, Ms. Robine" in unison. I saw firsthand the patience, flexibility, and multitasking skills it takes to run a fifth grade classroom, and realized, with humility, how much my help was needed. I have great respect for the teachers who can handle it all with grace.I believe a good a good teacher MUST have as much knowledge and interest about her subject as she does confidence in her student's ability to learn it. She cannot effectively teach what she herself does not know or care for. She should also be very patient and provide the necessary tools, rather than just the finished product. She must know when to step back and let students transition from theory to practice, from facts to personal experience. I strive to emulate these principles with all of my students.Other than tutoring, my interests are music, art, languages, writing poetry and narratives, and fitness. I taught myself to play the piano and guitar, and I also enjoy singing and songwriting. Most of my musical experience is closely linked to my Christian faith. I take much pleasure in going to the gym, jogging, taking long walks, attending open mics, and checking out the "Word Origin and History" sections of words on Dictionary.com.I look forward to joining my future students on the journey of success.

I am a graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University and I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.I have extensive experience working with students on an individual level and have been tutoring students from elementary school through high school for the past 10 years.I've worked with my students on reading and writing skills, organization and test preparation. My goal is to inspire my students with a lifelong love of learning and to help them develop the tools necessary to achieve that goal. I strive to have my students 'stretch their minds' so that they will succeed in the classroom, on standardized tests and enjoy the process along the way. Most importantly I try to make a connection with my students by listening to them carefully so that I can fully address their specific needs and devise an individualized program of study for them. I find that humor is often a great pathway to making a personal connection and establishing trust. My husband and I own an instructional baseball business where, in addition to helping students perfect their baseball skills, we mentor players who are striving to play baseball in high school, college and on the professional level. I have three children who have either graduated or are currently attending top colleges and universities - Boston University, Amherst College, Columbia University Business School.

"Dream big.Plan ahead.Stay focused.Invest in yourself.Read more books.Take calculated risks.Write down your goals.Take action even when it's scary."I consider myself to be a risk-taker and hope to inspire others to take steps that may sometimes seem "scary" to achieve their goals. On a professional level, I have a BA in International Affairs and French, work experience that ranges from the United Nations to the federal government, and have taught English both in the U.S and in Ukraine to students of all ages.I first began tutoring English and writing in college, and love helping students improve. I understand that every student is a different learner, and to some, English or writing may seem impossible as there are many "intangibles" behind writing the perfect essay. However, I try to break down these "intangibles" into digestible concepts based on my previous experience in education and writing.

I studied mathematics during undergrad and fell in love with using logic and numbers to sift through the world.I then went on to obtain two masters degrees in economics. I love economics because it is a smart combination of statistical rigor and humanity.I also was an economics Ph.D. student in University of California, Davis studying theoretical microeconomics and econometrics for 3 years before I dropped out in 2019.I realized that what I love the most is applying knowledge to solve real world problems and help other people understand things.I still love economics but I am much more into applying statistics, econometrics, and programming to solve real problems.I fell in love with teaching during my Ph.D. years. I love to see how students can really understand things if they find the right way -- the right people or the right recourses -- to learn from. I want to be students' right kind of way to learn!I strive to try my best to use what I know to help students solve problems and understand things with more clarity.I firmly believe that seeing things from different perspectives is the fastest way to gain real understanding.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2014 and have been working a variety of jobs from helping out at local hospitals to tutoring and being a research assistant. So far, I have enjoyed tutoring the most because I love seeing students' aha moments. My interest in tutoring begins from my time as a student. I loved to tackle tough problems especially in my math and physics class and was also intensely curious about problem solving in general. My own methods relied heavily on intuition. which was quite irritating as I like to know exactly how things work. Over time, I realized that this intuition was more than luck. In fact, it was a working knowledge of ideas and concepts on a particular topic acquired through hundreds of hours of prior preparation combined with a particular sense of translating a problem into terms I could understand. This understanding reflects in my own teaching style. I like to use discussion to first elicit a student's understanding of the subject. Then, with structured guidance through problems I further develop the student's understanding so that they can see the big picture, including strengths, weaknesses, and implications of a particular concept. These naturally build into developing critical thinking skills. While I currently tutor a wide array of subjects, I am most interested in tutoring Math (geometry, algebra 1/2/prealgebra, trigonometry), Physics 1 and 2, General Chemistry (Honors, AP, or college level), and the MCAT Foundations of Physical Science and Critical Analysis and Reasoning sections.

I am a senior at the University of Texas at Austin studying Civil Engineering. I am graduating in May 2022, and I will be starting at Boston Consulting Group in Fall 2022. I really enjoy tutoring students, and I have had a multitude of tutoring experiences in the past, from teaching violin and music to teaching younger students in areas of help they need. I attended a Math and Science Academy for High School, and throughout high school, I tutored in many AP subjects as well as SAT tutoring. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but I am most passionate about Math and Science topics. I really enjoy talking to students, and I am a firm believer of teaching students in their own individual way that most fits their learning style. I am committed to teaching your student, and I am excited to get to meet you!

Look, learning can be toughbut it's rewarding in the end, and done right, it can be a lot of fun. My goal is to help students learn and succeed, but also to help them have a good time while doing it.Part of what I love most about being a journalist is breaking things down and making them understandable to the massesbasically, teaching people new things. If they don't comprehend and retain that knowledge, I haven't succeeded in my job, just like a tutor. I've been informally tutoring people for years, whether it's helping children study for classes while babysitting in high school and college or helping classmates learn and prepare for school all the way back to my elementary school days. In one form or another, I've been helping people learn almost as long as I remember.A great tutor needs to be intelligent, with a comprehensive, intuitive understanding of the subject matter. It's not enough to just know the answers to questions; a tutor needs to understand why the answers are what they are. A great tutor needs to be compassionate, patient, understanding, and kind, to help create a safe, creative and comfortable environment for the student to learn. And a great tutor needs to be empathetic, to be able to put him/herself in the student's shoes and understand why he or she might be having trouble.
