I have over 30 years working with students of all ages. My primary work has been with teenagers. I have degrees in Special Education, Secondary Language Arts (High School), and School Administration. I am currently certified to teach PP-12th grade. My most recent teaching experience was 12 years in a public high school as a Resource Room teacher where I was exposed to multiple subject areas in all grades. I have taught academic and study skills, learning strategies classes and High School Literature and Composition classes. I am looking forward to helping your child improve their skills in reading comprehension and fluency as well as writing across content areas.I believe that children learn best when provided with real world, hands-on experiences that are challenging and collaborative. I am a graduate student at SUNY Plattsburgh in the BS/MSEd Special/Early Childhood Education program with a concentration in mathematics. I have completed all of my undergraduate and graduate courses for my degree, and I am student teaching in NYC for the Spring 2014 semester. Throughout the past 4 years, I have participated in many various classroom settings including a K,1,2,4,5 and an 8-1-2 special education classroom. I have had experience teaching lessons, helping students with classwork, facilitating small group lessons, adapting common core modules, creating engaging educational activities, and helping students with homework. I tutor students in mathematics and reading at the elementary level because of my experiences and background with students at this age level as well as SSAT and ISEE test preparation. The education I received at NAU was so valuable since many of the instructors were teachers at other schools themselves.During my student teaching, I was fortunate to get an opportunity to work with Title 1 students in the areas of Math and Reading. This experience encouraged me to get a reading endorsement.I feel that every student has the ability to learn and grow. Each student has their own learning style. A teacher must tap into this learning style. I love working with students and helping them achieve their goals.
