The student and I first worked on her algebra homework, which was a set of word problems that presented various situations that she needed to set up an algebraic equation for. She struggled at first with taking the information in the problem and assigning variables, but she improved as we went on. We will continue to practice this. Next, we worked on finding quotes to support her thesis statement for her Odysseus essay.

Today we went through chapter 4.2 homework. We had skipped Monday's session because the student had to meet with another teacher to prepare for his oceanography test. The trickiest thing for him was not to forget a negative sign and keep the fractions in order.

We covered homework questions that revolved around number lines and compound inequalities working through each problem. She learned symbols such as '[ ] ( )' and what they mean and how to read compound inequalities to translate them onto a number line. We briefly covered material from the previous test and found the student struggles with understanding ratios and word problems. For her test on Friday I advised that she study her homework and practice the problems for a thorough understanding.
