Online 3rd Grade Math Tutoring review by Andrea
The student and I worked mainly on math. After taking some time off while he took an exam, we started up with multiplying by 10, 100, and 1,000. He needed help with this in school, so his teacher sent home extra practice. I gave him some new strategies to use, and he definitely seemed to understand better at the end. He is continuing to do better in math overall, getting better grades on his tests now. His writing has also improved drastically, and his teacher is very pleased.

In today's session we focused on multiplication. We did a variety of activities that only dealt with multiplication. We worked on pyramids, flash cards, rainbow multiplication writing, minute drills, and multiplication bingo. There are no concerns at this time.

Our session went just fine. We completed her homework sheet which is covering customary and metric measurement. She has to decide which is better to use, pounds or ounces, grams or kilograms, etc. We went over several examples and I believe she will do well on her test tomorrow. We also worked on her 4's and 6's timed multiplication tests. We set the stopwatch and she has been getting 30 problems correct in in about a minute and 40 seconds. Way to go!

Today we really worked on fast thinking and multiplication and division problems. The students really gotten a grasp of quickly calculating. It's fantastic to hear him ask for harder problems. We also worked on vocabulary. He's very good at determining definitions through context clues. We did this by playing a game. Every time he got a word or math problem right, he got to take a turn.

Today was my last session working with the student. Since it was our last, we played hangman and she had to guess and use the words we had gone over with her flashcards. I also had her make a sentence using the words. With the time left, we were able to practice some multiplication and division facts as well.

We practiced reading comprehension. She read stories aloud, and then I would quiz her about the content, such as characters, plot etc. We also went over word problems. She struggles making sense of the different quantities given in a word problem. We practiced drawing out the problem to make more sense of the question and better visualize the numbers.
