What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe every child has the opportunity to succeed with the help and guidance of dedicated educators.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would have the student complete an assessment, and I would also speak to the student to see what areas of difficulty he/she is having in order to put a game plan into place to help that child learn, progress, and feel confident in themselves.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Children become independent learners when they are comfortable and confident in the subject matter. Practice and repetition are key factors in helping a student reach their full potential.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would consistently verbally praise a student on positive habits, and I would encourage and model positive confidence.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try different approaches such as teaching a child verbally with different manipulatives, listening tools, and resources to enhance the learning process.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading is all about reinforcement and repetition. I would go over vocabulary words and the proper format for reading in order to understand the main idea, setting, plot, etc.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
A student must first gain trust in the adult that is teaching. When that is established, a student can feel comfortable and want to learn, and can then learn from their mistakes to become better and more proficient in that subject matter.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would show the student the importance of knowledge as a whole, how learning is fundamental, and how the more we can learn the more we can grow and become more aware in our society.
