I have been a tutor for a long time. In my experience, working closely with a student is what allows for the greatest level of success. When working together, there is more of an emphasis on cooperation to get a task done. Traditionally, in a classroom environment, within a group, is more lecture-based. Tutoring changes all of that.

I graduated with honors from William Paterson University with a double-major in Computer Science and Media Production. During my time there, I was a technical consultant, assisting and educating students and faculty members on our many pieces of media equipment and softwares, as well as a computer science tutor, teaching fellow computer science students on C++, Java, MySQL, data structures, operating systems, and other topics within the major.I specialize in computer science at the high school, advanced placement, and college level. I also tutor in high school math and creative/essay writing. In my free time, I produce and edit videos as well as write Java and design webpages.When I tutor, a common question I ask is "Why?" Students can guess right answers, but if they cannot reason their answers, they do not yet understand the subject. I enjoy using humorous examples to guide students towards success and make concepts easier to comprehend. Comedy is a great memory tool.

I have been teaching for 10 years. I have taught regular education and special Education. I love working with children, helping them find their strengths and build on their weaknesses. I have a common sense approach to tutoring that allows me to be able to teach many different age levels. I like to use my in-depth knowledge of math and break it down in a way that makes sense to you. Knowing that every student learns differently, allows me to teach to a student's strengths. For instance, if you are a musical learner, we might find a song that can help you become more fluent with your multiplication facts! If you are a hands on learner, I might set up a pretend store to teach you how to make change! I find that teaching something multiple times and in multiple ways allows my students to really grasp the underlying concepts behind even the most difficult problems before moving on. I also think that along with the creative side of learning, we have to be sure to teach our children how to think! It sounds so simple and you might be saying, "Of course, I know how to think!" Well, when you are given a word problem, do you know what comes to mind? Are you aware of the questions you are asking yourself and how you are planning to solve the problem? I will be sure to strengthen these thinking skills, which are very important in test taking. Lastly, I believe it is important to always have a positive attitude as a teacher and get excited about the subject matter! I am always excited about teaching and the material I teach! I am a lifelong learner and, ultimately, my hope is to spread that love of learning to each and every one of my students!

I am a teacher of English Language Arts with going on eleven years experience. I have taught primarily in the middle school in my district and have experience teaching all three middle school grade levels. I spend the first five years of my career teaching sixth grade before transitioning to seventh grade for year and finally settling into teaching eighth grade for the last five years. Throughout this time I have worked with students who have had a range of skill levels, but I have had significant experience with struggling readers and writers. I have worked in a one on one setting with students both in the classroom and as a private tutor. I have a simple philosophy that every student is capable of success given the right tools and a little time and attention.Additionally, I have worked with high school level students as well, especially aiding in the writing of college essays. I have good communication skills and patience when working with others. I have a strong background in the sciences and the ability and passion to work with others so they may gain a greater understanding of the subjects. I am most knowledgeable about biology, though I am also proficient in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics.Throughout my life, I worked in mentoring positions including as a counselor at a scout camp teaching merit badges and as a lifeguard at a special needs camp where I helped others learn to swim. Beyond my academic work, I volunteered as an EMT, worked in a laboratory, volunteered in a hospital collecting data for research and also conducted my own research on the effects of mouthwash on the microbial ecology of the mouth. These experiences provided me with a greater appreciation and understanding to the importance of the sciences.

Education has always been of high value and priority in my life. As a daughter of an educator, schooling was always essential in my household. Moving through my academic career I slowly realized that my passion for learning could be turned into a profession. My love of learning and my propensity for compassion led me to become an educator. I am in the process of finishing my Master's Degree in Secondary Education but have my bachelor's in English. Additionally, I have a background in history and certification in K-12 English education.Currently, I am working as a high school English Teacher in a Blue Ribbon school district in New Jersey. Prior to this position, I worked as a preschool teacher, teacher assistant for special needs students, swim instructor, camp counselor, nanny, and had a practicum and student teaching experience at the middle school and high school level.
