When I was a student at Indiana University, I really enjoyed helping my friends who weren't English majors or who were ESL students write essays for their courses. Since then I've continued tutoring both Essay Writing and Literature, and now I'm foraying into test prep as well.I'm currently working as an Editorial Assistant for the Indiana Legislative Services Agency, so I edit state bills for grammar and punctuation, to make sure the law looks neat and tidy. I really can't get enough of the English language!In my free time I love rock climbing, kayaking/canoeing/swimming, yoga and running. (Anything where I can't disappoint a team, because, believe me, I would!) I also enjoy writing, usually creative short stories.

I am a freshman at Columbia University, currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science. In high school, I was a member of Mu Alpha Theta where I taught students geometry and algebra for two years. I tutor Computer Science, Math subjects up to Calculus III, Physics, and ACT Prep. In my free time, I typically program applications and games in C, C++, Python, and Java.

I am a graduate of Emory University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I then received a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University where I focused on Biotechnology. I am currently pursuing my M.D. in Boston, MA. During my time in graduate school, I tutored middle school and high school students in science and math. I love tutoring science, especially health sciences as I am in school to become a physician. I also enjoy teaching math and I find it to be one of the most rewarding subjects to watch a student grow to understand. Throughout my academic career, I have taken the SAT, GRE, and MCAT so I am especially passionate about test preparation.

I'm a recent re-hire at Varsity, and in the interim I've had a couple positions. I work for a pharmaceutical testing company right now, after a stint with Epic.When I grew up on the East Coast, I was fortunate enough to receive a good SAT I score, and SAT II scores. This really opened a lot of doors for me, both in terms of admissions and financial aid. My goal is to help my students meet whatever goals they have- whether it's improving on several sections of a standardized test, prepping for an AP exam or maybe some classroom work, I'm eager to make this happen.

I believe that learning should be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience and that the value of teachers is based on their love of the subject matter and their care for transmitting it to the student.

I am currently applying to MFA programs and working as a tutor in NYC. I went to Boston University where I studied Mandarin, Political Science, and East Asian Studies. After spending a lot of time in Shanghai and coming back to the US where I worked at a midsize marketing firm, I realized I am really most passionate about literature and reading. I left the marketing world to pursue academia and have been fully immersed in this world of learning and tutoring for over a year. Outside of Varsity Tutors, I also tutor an 11th grade boy several times a week in AP English and AP Biology. Personally, I also enjoy writing fiction, specifically short stories, and I play acoustic guitar.

I received my M.A. in English and my B.S. in English Education at a Long Island University. I have extensive experience working with students. I have worked as an administrator supporting students for years academically and emotionally. I have been a professional tutor at a national test-prepping company as well as at a University Writing Center. I enjoy pushing a student further than s/he thought possible. Seeing students achieve above their own expectations is a truly rewarding experience. I enjoy connecting the material to passions I have in pop culture and hobbies, which includes sports (mainly football), comics (Batman, Superman, etc.), and movies (Terminator, Star Wars, etc.).

I am a certified ESL Instructor. I studied Cross-cultural Communication at Brooklyn College and have experience teaching ESL in both the U.S. and Haiti. I knew that teaching ESL was something that I wanted to do because throughout my childhood I had to be a translator for my mother. I was born and raised in New York City but have firsthand experience with how challenging life can get when you're living in a place where the language, and consequently the culture, is foreign to you. In regards to education, being able to learn new information is challenging enough but then becomes more challenging when you struggle with the language. This is why I want to help! I understand that I am very blessed to be able to communicate articulately and I am so excited to help others communicate that way too!
