Tutoring review by William in Newburyport, MA
We went over what he did in regards to his data set. He seemed to need the right direction in terms of analyzing the data. He seemed confident about the material that was reviewed. I did not include any strategies or study skills in this session. I suggested to him to find the values for his three variables of interest for all of the observations first before performing tests of normality and regression correlation tests among them.

Tutoring review by Roy in Newburyport, MA
During this session we reviewed the problems I sent the student to complete, which covered the distributive property and using the FOIL method. Although he had some confusion when working on the problems, we were able to clear things up during the session. He is quickly picking up the building blocks and will soon master them with some more practice. New material covered in this session included expanding the grid FOIL technique to larger functions, factoring simple quadratic equations, and solving sets of equations. I will send the student some more practice problems to complete before the next session.

Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Newburyport, MA
We reviewed systems of equations. At first the student had some issues with eliminating variables; she took too many steps and made some equations more complicated in order to single out or eliminate variables. After showing how to better choose pairs of equations to eliminate and solve for variables, the student was much more efficient, in both the time it took her to solve the entire system and how to pick more appropriate pairs of equations. We worked through homework problems through which she steadily improved throughout the session.

We went over a pre-calculus review on domain/range/intercepts/endpoint behavior, solving radical equations, finding roots, and modeling polynomials. The student was very comfortable with handling all of the concepts, and was proficient with using her graphing calculator to input data and find power functions. She had a better understanding of finding domain/range since the last session, and can do even better if she reviews horizontal asymptotes (related to range).

Tutoring review by Michael in Newburyport, MA
Tonight I worked with the student in preparing for his upcoming placement exam for next year's math class. We reviewed a few concepts from his current chapter on linear systems of equations, and the various methods of solving them- i.e. graphing, substitution or elimination. We also reviewed for his upcoming science quiz on density and buoyancy, primarily reviewing the concepts and formulas on his review sheet. We plan to meet again tomorrow for more math content before his placement test this weekend.
