I am an English Language Arts Teacher and primarily work with students that need support with reading, writing, and executive functioning. It is rewarding when you have seen students with lower reading levels in the 9th grade, then go off to college at the end of their 12th grade year. I have a Master of Education in Moderate Disabilities and currently teach grades 7-12. I have supported students with preparing for many standardized tests, such as the MCAS, the ACCUPLACER, and the ACT/SAT English Portions of the exam.

I believe that everyone can learn. While sometimes education takes a one size-fits-all approach, and everyone is expected to learn the same thing at the same time, using the same methods, in reality that doesn't always work. I have witnessed first hand how frustration can stop a student in his or her tracks. Many times I have seen students put themselves down and give up on learning. Sometimes they believe that when they didn't understand something fast enough, that maybe they just can't do it. This is never the case. There are many ways of approaching new knowledge and new skills, and students can very quickly begin to see how their own learning process works. One of the things I enjoy doing with my students is helping them to gain insight into how they learn, so that not only will they experience mastery today, but they will gain new understanding going forward as well.

I graduated from Clark University in 2002, did graduate work at UMass Medical and became a scientist in 2004. Until 2011, I worked in the labs of some of the hottest biotech startups in Boston helping to create medicines to help cancer patients, diabetics, and create general anti-pain drugs. I published and won awards for my research, but something was missing. I realized that the most fun part of my job was educating people about my research. Coming from a long line of teachers, I decided one day to go back to school and get my Masters in Education. I graduated from Salem State University with a Master of the Arts in Teaching Biology in 2011, got my teaching certifications, and started working in high schools soon after as a Biology and Chemistry teacher.During the past 3 years, I have taught three levels of Biology, including MCAS directed, college prep, and AP. Also Evolution, Ecology, and Cell Biology. I have also taught Chemistry for the past two years. I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, SAT's, SSAT's, ACT's and Algebra/Pre-calculus for the past three years. All of the students I have tutored have seen significant improvement in their grades and subject understanding as a result of our lessons.I believe that science is interesting and fun to learn. Sometimes, it is difficult for students to understand the relevance and importance of science in their lives and struggle with the material. As your tutor, I will help you to understand the intricacies of the subject and visualize the many connections that exist between the subtopics. I will also help you to develop the study skills and organization necessary for mastery of not just science, but also other information intensive topics.I keep things loose and fun, but also focused. I like to keep my lessons stress free and relaxed. Please contact me if there is a way I can help you, your son or daughter, or anyone you know learn the awesomeness of science and math or help give you the edge to reach your SAT goals.

Hello Everyone,I was educated in the field of teaching education beginning with my undergraduate at Westfield State University in Visual Art Education in 2004. I have also almost completed an additional Masters Degree in Special Education from Cambridge College. My experience with students stems from 15 years teaching Special Education in the Lynn Public Schools, as well as the last 4 years as an adjunct professor at North Shore Community College teaching ESL to adults and English Composition 101. I have also mentored with RAW Arts Project LAUNCH where I was paired up with a High School Senior and helped them with the college process. From essay writing, applications, financial aide and more. The subject that I specialize in is teaching ESL to students of all ages involving all aspects: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, as well as grammar and syntax, essay composition and more.My favorite subject that I like to tutor is writing. I love to read a students work and in the process you can learn so much from your student. My teaching philosophy is that all students have the ability to learn, it just takes patience and understanding of your students as individual learners, finding strengths and weaknesses, and getting to know your student on a personal level. My interests outside of teaching are that I am an avid SCUBA diver, as well as an accomplished musician. I play most instruments fairly well and have been playing in bands for over 20 years. I also LOVE to go to the beach to kayak, snorkel, and swim, as well as hanging out with my dog Pearl.
I have been a classroom teacher for the past 2 years and have recently transitioned to working in the non-profit setting as my full-time job. During my time as a classroom teacher, I taught students in grades 1 & 2 in both a fully remote, hybrid and fully in person setting so I have a wide range of experience working in all different settings with my students. I am very familiar with teaching remotely and have a strong passion for literacy particularly phonics, reading, and writing. I have 3 degrees: my undergraduate degree is from Lesley University in both Creative Writing and Elementary Education. My graduate degree is from Salem State University in Reading Instruction. I believe in teaching students with authentic material that will make them excited to learn. Learning through stories is one of my most excited passions and hope my students get excited about it too! Outside of teaching and working with children, I enjoy being in the outdoors taking walks, relaxing in my backyard, spending time with my husband, family, friends, and dog as well as reading and traveling.
