I am a graduate of The University of Massachusetts at Boston. In this institution, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts, focusing on Elementary Education and a minor in psychology, my Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics, and a Doctorate in Leadership in Urban School Administration with a Special Education policy. Since graduation, I havetaught newcomer students and students with special education needs at the school level. Additionally, I have tutored students after school in communities with low socioeconomic status and professionals who recently moved to the United States and need to learn and improve their English to work.I have also traveled extensively, tutoring children of immigrants in Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Ecuador, sponsored by the Baptist Convention.I am most passionate about English, teaching reading strategies to those who do not know how to read or struggle with reading (special education students, students with interrupted education, and dyslexia, to mention a few).In my experience, instilling an early love of reading at the elementary school level gives a child a head start on expanding their vocabulary and building independence and self-confidence. In addition, it helps children learn to make sense of the world around them and people, building social-emotional skills and, of course, imagination. My passion is teaching and training. My first passion lies in teaching students who have not learned to read in their native language; however, they may struggle to put together the sound/symbol correspondence concept, new words, and new sounds since it is difficult for students to distinguish phonetic components in new vocabulary words. My second passion is teaching special education students to develop a reading ability to increase college and career readiness. My third passion is to train teachers and support school leaders, which I have done for the last ten years at the school and state levels.I have been a firm advocate of education for the last 27 years, believing it to be essential for improved well-being, and I always impart this passion to my students. In addition, I like to train parents in my free time by teaching them different strategies to help students in their education. Furthermore, I love to travel with my family because I love to spend time with them while visiting new places.

Nicole Sorensen has over 12-years experience learning and then practicing as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her husband, son, and dog. Nicole teaches master's coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis at Simmons University and is a Faculty member for Undergraduate Psychology at Purdue Global. She holds a master's in Forensic Psychology and completed her BACB Coursework at Western New England University. Nicole began her career at the New England Center for Children (NECC) in Boston, Massachusetts; she became a Level 2 Teacher while working as a Graduate Research Assistant in Adult Residential, Staff Intensive Unit, and Day Program. Following this, Nicole traveled abroad to NECC's Mohammed Bin Rashid Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE working as a Therapist in an early learner ABA classroom. Returning home, Nicole served as a Program Behavioral Specialist at a private school in Columbus, Ohio. Nicole then led as Executive Clinical Director for a multi-environment Clinical Behavior Analysis program where she developed multiple locations and oversaw the expansion of ABA services for children in foster care and adults with traumatic brain injury throughout Southern Ohio and Kentucky. Nicole has a passion for research, and she is ardent about providing comprehensive and ethical BACB supervision to those she mentors. Nicole holds herself and her students to the highest standards while working to promote the principles of ABA and advance the discipline of Psychology.

I am an educator with 20 years of experience. I am currently seeking a Masters of Social Work at Smith College in order to compliment my existing teaching experience. I have worked with math, science, humanities, and English. My preparation to go to graduate school enabled me to become very familiar with test prep strategies and I am also a competent guide for preparing to take both college admissions and graduate admissions exams.I enjoy working with people from a wide variety of educational backgrounds and ages. Hi! I have taught high school math in Boston for three years. Most of my experience has been with Algebra 1 and Geometry, but I'm comfortable with all math content up through Calculus. Some of my most enjoyable and rewarding experiences working with students have been helping them with assignments individually during a free period or after school. I'm excited to leverage my experience in the classroom in work with even more students on a one-on-one basis.I believe that any students can make huge academic gains in any subject area - no matter how much they may struggle - with the right amount of work ethic and support. I've been a practicing archaeologist for 10 years with as much interest in fieldwork as laboratory methods, and I'm currently focussing on raising my toddler after a recent year long teaching appointment at MIT in ceramic analysis. Archaeology is often misunderstood strictly as the study of the human past, but it's more interesting than that: it's the study of human changes over space and time.Every teaching or idea is only as good as it's applications. Archaeology has applications in and draws on all sorts of fields to answer questions including history, linguistics, geography, manufacturing and construction methods, geology, industrial science, photography, chemistry and so on. My subject palette reflects a close engagement with their applications in archaeological work and my personal reserach.I also spent 15 years in Europe as a dual citizen, moving through Germany, Switzerland and the UK. As a young boy, this threw me into the deep end of a foreign languages and so I was always adapting to a new challenge to be a less obvious outsider. It was hard going no doubt, but I found that confidence with language was not a matter of learning endless tables and words and phrases, but becoming truly familiar with the tools and the gears that make everything work.This independence is a lasting contribution of studying languages, and this is my tutoring focus. I will not have your student recite tables, we will investigate them and make them tools. Your student will not just learn vocabulary and grammar but will gain an appreciation for how closely German and English are related. And your student will not just pronounce words but pronounce them well (if they're making odd sounds it's because I told them to practice them: GOOD!).I understand from personal experience how difficult education and standards and pressure can be. I am committed to recognizing how a student learns best and I value learning from them in return. Learning is a life-long two-way street.

I'm an English major and I have a JD from Suffolk Law. Coming out of college as an English major, I chose to pursue law, with the eventual goal of becoming a law professor down the line. I've always loved helping and teaching people, as I believe it's the most important thing we can do for one another as human beings - if we have the knowledge, I think we should share it with as many people as we can. I used to teach Cello part-time to fellow students when I was in high school, and that was great fun for everyone.I've traveled extensively and have had some great experiences with education in other countries, like the UK, Sweden, and even Cuba. I take pride in helping my students understand what they are trying to learn, as well as in helping them to achieve what they've set out to do.
