I am a graduate of Southwestern University, where I received my degree in art history and am currently pursuing my master's of library science from the University of North Texas. I'm so very interested in helping students because it is my ultimate pleasure to help people learn and see them enjoy what they are learning. I have a fair amount of experience with students (generally children): I have served as an education intern at an historical museum, mentored middle school students, worked at a children's museum, and taught children of preschool age all the way up till eighth grade. The subject in my tutoring repertoire is art history (specifically preparing for the Advanced Placement Art History exam). I particularly enjoy tutoring this subject because I am so familiar with it. As a high school student, my interest in art history was piqued because of a great teacher, so I'd love to cultivate the same feeling in my students. I think when it comes to any subject, a student will benefit most if their instructor is able to relate to them and make the material relatable. I consider that to be my general approach when it comes to teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and watching movies.

I am a graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology with a minor in Geography and Environmental Studies. Throughout college I developed the ability to effectively communicate to a variety of demographics while simultaneously garnering skills in time management, course preparatory techniques, and teaching. Since graduating, I have been working with teens as a Health Educator at multiple high schools throughout Los Angeles. While I am capable of tutoring on a variety of subjects, my interest in practicing medicine bolsters my passion for tutoring in the sciences. I truly believe that creating a strong foundation during high school will ensure a smooth and successful transition into college. In my spare time, I enjoy finding alternative methods for enriching my health such as exercise, running, cycling, swimming, and researching new healthy recipes.

I attended Carnegie Mellon University with a focus on Acting and Medieval Literature. I grew up in a family of teachers, and I spent my years in high school and in college working as a peer tutor. While at university, I also served as a part-time English teacher at two elementary schools in inner city Pittsburgh. Since college, I have lived and worked as a tutor in New York, Los Angeles, and Barcelona. While I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, History, Math, and the SAT. I am fascinated by the SAT. I love teaching struggling test takers how to view the SAT as an approachable, accessible set of riddles and games instead of as an intellectual brick wall. I firmly believe that the majority of people can find great joy in academics once they discover the individual approach that works for them. I see it as my job to help them find that path. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, running, travel, and reading. I am also a section editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books and the literary manager for two theater companies based in New York and Los Angeles.

I received a degree in Economics from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Before that, I studied political science and pre-law at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia and spent a year studying Chinese language and history at Peking University in Beijing, China. I have experience in a wide range of subjects and age groups. I've done everything from editing papers for friends to assisting English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching. My focus and greatest personal interest is in Social Studies. Whether it's history, government, or economics, I'm fascinated by how societies function, and I love to help people explore these topics. I believe the most important part of tutoring is helping a student overcome their fear of being wrong. Oftentimes the intense social pressures of the classroom make it difficult to speak up for fear of being wrong, but even the greatest minds among us don't solve every question immediately. My strength is in helping students work through inevitable and often healthy mistakes without becoming discouraged. My intention is to become a full time teacher in the future. In my free time, I'm an avid basketball fan and player, and I can often be found enjoying a good book.

As a young student, I rarely took advantage of tutoring resources and mostly took to the internet to teach myself the subjects I struggled with. However, when I did make use of tutoring services I had a far easier time being successful in my studies.I would now like to help a new generation find their passion in the subjects they may come to enjoy and encourage the seeking of real help when it is needed to ensure their academic success. My strongest subject was always math, but as I have gotten older I've slowly been able to unlock my writing potential as well. I think by going through the process of having to figure out my own writing process, when it did not fit with the process I was always taught, I can better help those who may have the potential to be good writers get past their own mental hold-ups.I have always found that just simply listening to somebody talk about a subject has done little to make a lesson stick in my mind. Because of this I strongly believe in a hands-on approach to learning that focuses on the student's interaction with the material.I'm currently a junior at Western Washington University(WWU), and during high school, I did the running start program for my last two years meaning I went to community college instead of high school classes. I didn't take the SAT or ACT, rather, I transferred as a college student after high school. I think the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong ambition and something beneficial to everybody. That being said I also strongly believe that going to a 4-year college right after high school doesn't have to be the only route you can take. Aside from WWU, my plan is to get an FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification and work as an aircraft mechanic.Outside of academia, I love physical activities and the outdoors. I'm a strong believer in the benefits of a healthy body as well as a healthy mind. That being said I'm also an avid gamer and a pretty big nerd so you won't catch me behind on any big MCU developments or gaming debuts.

About Me:Since graduating from Colgate University in 2016, I have taught in a variety of settings, working with students from several different age groups. I spent one year as a special education teacher for 2nd and 3rd grade students, and four years as a physical education teacher in early childcare. My favorite thing about about working with students is being able to help them realize their own potential. While I love being able to transfer my knowledge and skills to potential students, I am genuinely amazed when I have the opportunity to help someone grow in their self-confidence.My Teaching Philosophy:Learning is not merely a process of rote memorization and regurgitation of facts. It is a dynamic process in which an individual, with a unique personality and learning style, attempts to understand and integrate new concepts and ideas. As such, my teaching style emphasizes the importance of the individual's personality. I start by meeting a student exactly where they are in their learning process for a particular subject. We work together to identify their unique learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, reading/writing, etc) and from there, use their strengths to deepen their understanding of challenging concepts. It is my belief that anyone can learn challenging concepts if they keep trying. This belief underpins all aspects of my interactions with students and encourages them to believe this truth about themselves over time.Favorite subject to tutor:Math! I love tutoring math because it is a challenging subject for a lot of people. I love tutoring math because it is incredibly rewarding to help students understand that even though math can seem really challenging and confusing, it is something that anyone is capable of learning if they spend enough time working on it. I love helping students build their confidence over time in a subject that, to them, seemed previously impossible to understand. What I tutor:-Math-Reading-History-Science-Javascript-HTML/CSS

I am an adjunct instructor/professor of business, marketing, and management with 27 years of college and university teaching experience. Furthermore, I have taught in other countries such as Russia, and I go back and forth to France, which is my origin. Subsequently, I hold four Masters degrees which include an MBA in Management from Long Island University, Masters of Liberal Studies with a concentration in History and Political Science from StonyBrook University, an EdM in Education Administration from Columbia University, and an MLS in Library Science from St John's University. I completed my PhD in Management at Walden University. For the past 16 years, I have been a private tutor in the following subject areas; English, Writing, French, Basic Italian, History, Psychology, Social sciences, and Bible Studies. Furthermore, I am ESL certified from the Language School in Montpellier, France, where I obtained a certification in TOEFL and TOESL. I am experienced in APA format scholarly writing and can assist in all levels of written expression. It is difficult to say what my favorite subject is because I love tutoring and teaching them all, as I truly enjoy helping and mentoring students. If I had to say what my favorite subjects are, I would say the business area because of my teaching experience, the languages, and the writing areas. However, I truly enjoy all the subjects especially ethics and social sciences and hard sciences.Teaching and Tutoring PhilosophyIn my 27 years of teaching experience on the college and university level, and 10 years of tutoring experience, I have developed my own teaching and tutoring philosophy. From these experiences, I have learned that people have diverse learning styles. For example, some of my students are visual learners, and others are auditory learners as well as kinesthetic learners. Therefore, I have taken on a similar philosophy to Howard Gardner who believed there are many different kinds of intelligences and students have different ways they learn best. Hence, I employ many different learning modalities in my teaching including lecture, presentation, question and answer, group work, brainstorming, visual aids, and role-playing simulations. For tutoring, I use visual and auditory, based on the materials that the student provides. I try to use diverse learning methods that are tailored to each student. My philosophy is that all people can learn given the proper supports and tools. Learning curves vary in length but everyone can achieve and succeed with the proper supports. In addition, I believe that critical thinking and high order cognitive learning is crucial to success in higher education and careers. It is important for students to learn how to compare, contrast, apply, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and implement. Critical thinking is excellent training in executive decision making and judgment which is crucial for students entering the work place or advancing their careers. I have a strong passion for teaching and it gives me great satisfaction when I see students grow in their knowledge and critical thinking as a result of what I can impart upon them.My interests outside academia include going out with friends, dancing, karaoke, general and space science, sports (hockey, American football, basketball, etc), technology, statistics, music, traveling, French culture, experiencing multicultural diversity, and classic cars.In closing, I think it is important for a tutor to be a knowledgeable teacher, a role model, a mentor, as well as patient and open-minded to all cultures and learning abilities, and styles. My goal is to fulfill that role which is who i admire li Manning who is my role model.
