During my 3.5 years at Arizona State University I could never pick a focused area of study because I was, and still am, interested in everything. I started off as a math major because I was already very accomplished in the subject, having taken Calc 3 and Differential Equations in high school. However, I found myself wanting to explore other subjects as soon as I started college, taking courses in art and music history, dance, anthropology, and biology. I excelled in all of them, making it even harder for me to choose just one thing. I then became a biological sciences major, with an emphasis on genomics, but I couldnt let go of my other interests, wanting to continue my studies in anthropology, math, and dance. A year into that major and I wanted to change yet again, this time to physical anthropology. A year into physical anthropology, and I wanted to change my major even still. This time though I knew I had to slow down and really think about what it is I want to do.In my time away I have realized that what has remained constant for me is a love of learning. This is why I continue to go to my local library every month, consistently leaving with a stack of 10+ books. Furthermore, while taking classes in college I found that I really enjoyed helping other students succeed in their studies. I helped people in chemistry labs and biology labs, edited essays, and worked through math problem sets with other students. When I tutored students, regardless of subject, I would bring patience and understanding with me to the session. If they were not grasping a concept, then I knew it was something that I was doing wrong. Everyone learns differently and at different paces, and my goal was and is to be able to communicate the information you want to know in a style that is most suitable for you. Additionally, when it comes to math and science courses, I emphasize conceptual understanding. When tutoring and talking to other students in chemistry, physics, etc. , I found that often times they did not know why a formula worked or why a step was being taken, causing them to make mistakes when problems did not perfectly resemble examples done in class. When I tutor, I will make sure that students have a qualitative as well as a quantitative understanding of the material, making them more adaptable to different formats of test questions. And if youre wondering about French being listed in my tutoring subjects, I took four years of French in high school, placed top 10 in the National French test my junior and senior years, and I continue to work on my French by listening and talking to my boyfriend and his family, for whom French is one of their native languages.

Hello! I am a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin where I studied nutrition and sociology, and conducted immunology and cancer research. I'm currently in the process of applying to medical school and am taking a gap year to work and spend time with my family. Science and math have always been my favorite subjects. I am particularly interested in chemistry, biology, and algebra because of how interconnected these topics are with one another. I have successfully taken many advanced biology and chemistry courses including genetics, human physiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, and more; I have also excelled in multiple areas of mathematics such as algebra, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and calculus.Teaching and tutoring others has always been a passion of mine; throughout my undergraduate career, I helped many of my peers understand course material by hosting group study sessions or meeting with them individually. I love helping others explore different learning styles and breaking down concepts in ways that make them easier to understand. Between maintaining straight A's, scoring in the 91st percentile in the Chem/Phys portion of my MCAT, and nurturing my scientific curiosities through my research, I have cultivated the skills needed to teach others in a way that is tailored to them.Testing and studying are individual to each of us - what works for one person may not work for another - so I can work with you to create a plan that is personalized to your strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I am more than happy to help you understand your course material, assist with test taking strategies, and share my own tips, materials, and methods that helped me throughout my academic career. Regardless of which stage you are at in your studies, I'd love to help you achieve your goal.

I have Bachelor's Degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics from Jacksonville University. I'm currently looking into a master's program in instructional technology or in computer science starting next Spring. I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities. My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering. In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have also taught Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well!

I taught high school mathematics for five years in the Cincinnati area. I have always had a passion for teaching and for mathematics. I enjoy helping others find an appreciation for problem solving and finding multiple ways to get to an answer. I really like to focus on relating all material to something found in the student's life. This helps the material stick and is a good tool to use down the road.

I am currently a junior at Penn State and I am in a 7-year Accelerated Medical Program. I have always been a science and math geek, so it makes sense that I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and several levels of Mathematics (including standardized tests) since I was a junior in high school. I love tutoring these subjects because I know that new concepts in such areas can be intimidating and difficult to grasp, and finding new ways for my students to understand them is like solving a puzzle to me. Putting myself in my students shoes has always been my motto and, I believe, is the best way to help them academically. Outside of academics I love to play sports such as soccer and basketball while also playing video games during extra time.
