Trigonometry Tutoring review by Manny in Northlake, IL
The student and I went over his chapter 3 exam that dealt with domain, range, and piece wise functions. He received a good grade, but there were a few mistakes he made that we addressed. The topic now makes a lot more sense to him, and he is feeling more comfortable. He and I are also reviewing graphing quadratic equations and scatter plots, which will be covered on the exam next Wednesday. We have a session next Tuesday.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Daniel in Northlake, IL
We went over the student's homework, which was on knowing what graphs of different polynomials look like, from 3rd-5th degree. The worksheet asked what the end behavior was as x went to positive and negative infinity, what the degree was, the domain, and max extrema. I planned on using y=x and y=x^2 as easier examples first to explain end behavior and what happens when those graphs turn into y=-x and y=-x^2. However, he didn't know what those graphs looked like, so I told him to graph it and went back to the very basics. After figuring out these more simple equations, we went back to the worksheet, where we solved the rest of the questions. I made him explain why a certain answer was the way it was as he was working through the page. We finished that sheet, so I started talking to him about college and the SAT as well. I tried to lay out a larger picture goal of what he needs to do for his junior and senior year to get into college. This was a bit different from usual sessions, but I think it is necessary to look at the big picture too as well as just daily math sessions.
