As will be seen by the list of subjects in my Varsity Tutor Profile, I am a multi-subject polymath with great and depth in what I teach who always places the needs, desires and dreams of students first. A Lifelong Scholar focused on Excellence, my praxis seeks to empower those I I teach by infecting them with passion for critical thinking and awakening and nurturing their "I know I can! Let's do it!" energies. Comfortable with technology, I strive to continually improve teaching and learning processes so my tutees become adept at turning information into knowledge. Champion, then, of scholars' growth both individually and communally/collaboratively, I guide them to learn where, when, how and why to take control individually and when to trust the team. At the core of my methodology is the ability to listen: My students, then, can become adepts at PEARLS (Partnership, Empathy, Apology/Acknowledgment, Respect, Legitimation, and Support), not only "listening to" but "hearing" interlocutors in this increasingly multi-vocal/valent world. Consequently equitable, suitable, ethical and sustainable solutions with clear benefits for all stakeholders in the learning transaction can emerge. I am passionate about helping students discover their own love for learning. I believe that education is a lifelong journey, and when students embrace curiosity and persistence, they build the foundation for success in every area of life. I believe learning is most meaningful when students are active participants in their education. My tutoring style focuses on collaboration, patience, and tailoring each lesson to meet individual needs while building on students' strengths. I enjoy tutoring a wide range of subjects, but my favorites are math, language arts, and reading. I see math as an engaging puzzle and love guiding students to understand and solve problems with confidence. I'm equally passionate about language arts and reading because I believe developing a love for reading opens doors to creativity, imagination, and lifelong learning. I am a member of the Kentucky Department of Education and a senior at the University of the Cumberlands, pursuing a degree in P-5 Elementary Education with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Studies. I will graduate this Spring and plan to begin my master's degree soon after. I bring a variety of experiences working with children, including coaching youth soccer, running co-op learning groups, homeschooling my own children, and conducting classroom observations in elementary schools where I have also taught lessons. These experiences have strengthened my ability to connect with students of different learning styles and help them grow academically and personally. Outside of academia, I love reading, exploring the outdoors, listening to music, cooking, gardening, and spending time with my family.

I am a graduate of Georgian Court University in Lakewood New Jersey where I received my BA in Special Education, with a minor in Psychology. Additionally, I received a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton and a Master's Degree in Reading Education, and Writing Specialization from the University of the Cumberlands. I have been teaching in the Toms River Regional School District in NJ for twenty-five years. During that time I have taught preschool, K-3 special education, 6-8 small group instruction in Language Arts and Social Studies, and in-class support instruction in Social Studies and Science for grades 6-8. I am well versed in the online teaching format and believe it enhances today's tech savvy students' educational experience. I have scored state level Reading Comprehension and Writing exams for grades 6-8 which has given me a better understanding of how to assist struggling students to achieve success. I especially enjoy working with students to improve their reading comprehension and writing skills using subject specific topics and creating study games, and projects that make learning fun! When working with students it is important to consider each student's specific learning style, needs, and strengths to build success. I believe that a well rounded education is essential to lifelong success for every student. In my spare time, I enjoy reading biographies, going to the beach, and traveling, especially to Disney, with my family.

I have a BA in History and Minor in Chinese Studies from the University of Louisville, I studied Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University for a summer term, have certification as a middle and high school Social Studies teacher, AP Human Geography, TEFL, and have a MA in Teaching from the University of the Cumberlands. I have been tutoring adults and children since 2009 professionally and as a volunteer. I worked as a Substitute Teacher and Tutor for grades K-8 with multiple school districts in Connecticut, and tutored high school and college students in multiple subjects. In addition, I worked as an administrator for colleges in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Ohio, specializing in academic advising, transfer admissions, and strategic planning. I never forgot what it was like to be a student and the fears, hopes, and anxieties that come with the territory. I believe in using real-world examples and materials that interest YOU while adapting to your unique learning style.

As a child playing school with my younger siblings, I never dreamed I would one day become an actual teacher. Many years later, I graduated from Western KY University where I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and then went on to become a graduate of University of the Cumberlands Master's program where I got my degree in Education Administration. It was when I enrolled in my first education classes that I realized the passion I had for teaching. I became absorbed in it. I truly desired to help every student that I could. Since then, I have taught 16 years at an elementary school. During those years, I taught second, third, fourth grade classrooms and first grade reading and math intervention. After leaving the elementary school, I went to work at an adult education center working with students over the age of 18 years old. At the adult education center, I tutored students and helped them passed their GED exams. I also taught ESL family classes, Family Literacy and Digital Literacy classes. I believe in life long learning for everyone at every age. In addition, I believe with all my heart that everyone can learn!

Hello! Let me begin by sharing what I believe to be my guiding principle as a teacher. William Butler Yeats once stated that "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Mathematics education is not about dumping a bunch of facts, formulas, and theorems into a bucket that you carry around with you. It is about looking for patterns, planning solutions, and solving problems. This requiring more than just knowing a bunch of facts. You have to critically think about the problem, the solution, and the path that you must take to get the answer. There are usually many different paths to get the answer, and that is one of the most confusing parts for most students.My 13 years experience as a high school mathematics instructor and five experience as a college level instructor have given me insight into how to help each student achieve their goals and lessen the confusion. There are multiple ways to approach real life problems and that is what I believe most mathematics courses attempt to teach us. It is important to understand some basic facts about mathematics, but it equally as important to have a solid foundation in problem solving. My teaching approach is to foster an understanding of problem solving techniques while ensuring that the basic skills are rooted in a solid foundation.

I hold a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands. With over 30 years of experience as a sign language interpreter in both K-12 and college settings, I have been teaching American Sign Language at the college level for more than 5 years. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages students to engage actively with the material, promoting both comprehension and confidence. I am passionate about helping students succeed in their language acquisition journey and take pride in creating meaningful connections that enhance their learning experiences.
