I recently completed my Masters of Science degree in Human Physiology with an emphasis on Neurophysiology from University of Oregon. While completing my degree, I lead human anatomy/physiology lab sections. This experience enabled me to develop various successful teaching and learning strategies. I enjoy working to clarify difficult material and seeing students succeed.I am most experienced with Human Anatomy and Physiology related courses, but I am also happy to assist with biology, chemistry, statistics and general study skills/organization.I am passionate about sciences, healthcare technology, and sports performance training. Outside of academics, I enjoy skiing, rock climbing and almost any outdoor activity. I am a graduate of the University of Oregon, where I obtained my degree in Sociology. While pursuing my degree, I worked as a tutor for student athletes. I have continued to train and educate others in various positions across employment fields. I firmly believe in adapting my teaching style to the needs of the individual student. I tutor a range of subjects, mainly focusing in the writing and reading areas. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (fiction and nonfiction), yoga, going on adventures with my dogs, and jigsaw puzzles.

I grew up in Northeast Portland and got my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon in 2007. From there I went on to teaching overseas in first Kenya followed by Nicaragua then Romania and lastly Japan. I knew I had a passion for teaching by this point so I returned to Portland and earned my Masters in Teaching at Concordia University in secondary level English Language Arts. I am now working towards adding an English as a Second Language endorsement.In each of the aforementioned countries, I have tutored students between the ages of nine years old to 47 years old. My daughter who is almost three, is my newest student. I am most knowledgable in tutoring English Language Arts and prefer elementary to high school grades and subjects.From my experiences, I know that hands-on learning that is relevant to the student is the best way for a student to retain information. I like to be creative with learning and get excited to use music, exercise, art, and the environment in my teaching for example.Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young daughters, exercising, gardening, reading, eating good food, photography, dancing and enjoy outdoor activities.

I really like helping students realize that they can get better at math, no matter how they feel about it. I think it is important to listen to what student's think and need, and then work with that to help them get the most out of tutoring sessions. My favorite aspect of working with students as a math tutor is helping them develop their number sense and building their comfort level with arithmetic which helps at all levels of mathematics. Having been a classroom teacher for six years, I have seen a variety of students and learned to work with them based on their specific needs. I studied philosophy as an undergraduate at Wheaton College in the suburbs of Chicago and received my MEd in teaching and learning at the University of Oregon. I have been a full time high school math teacher in Compton, CA, and Roseburg, OR. I have also substitute taught in Phoenix, AZ, and Salem, OR.I recently moved to New York to pursue acting opportunities and have been fortunate to be in a few performances in the city already. I love theatre and music, but I also really enjoy sports. I have six years of experience coaching high school soccer, and spent one year as part of the coaching staff for the Linfield College women's soccer and men's basketball programs.

I am an avid, lifelong learner, and love to help others appreciate the subjects I love most: history, writing, and ecology. I have taught or TA'd college courses in these subjects and more, which means, in addition to a firm grasp on the material, I have a good perspective on how assignments are graded and what professors are seeking from their students.I completed my undergraduate education at Tulane University, where I double majored in Environmental Studies and Studio Art. In my experience, there are many students who need more than what large classes can provide, either because they need one-on-one time to grasp tricky concepts in a fast moving course, or because they are ahead of the class and want to perfect their assignments, which many instructors simply don't have time to help with. I tailor the help I give to the objective a student has--from needing to scrape together a passing grade to striving for that perfect essay, I streamline or add depth to the material being studied.I am a strong believer in a well rounded liberal arts education--being interdisciplinary has served me well, and I'm excited to help others connect and synthesize the subjects they study.
