I am a young professional working in the Houston area. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) but am a Texas native born and raised. I've worked with students of all ages and backgrounds and really enjoy helping others reach their full potential. While I tutor students in multiple subjects, Spanish is definitely my favorite. I enjoy teaching Earth Science because I loved learning about it myself. It allows me to view the world around me in a different way and to question why things are the way they are instead of just accepting that they exist. I double majored in Earth Science (Geology) and Marine Science and completed my B.Sc.. For my Graduate degree in Geology I studied at the University of Oklahoma. My thesis touched multiple topics such as geologic subsurface mapping, petrophysics, k-means cluster analysis, and lithological modeling. My interests include animals (I have two kitties), arts and crafts, exploring the outdoors, visiting museums, traveling to new places (especially if they have geologic outcrops, cooking, and learning new skills (right now I'm learning Python)!

If you have not stretched, running is awkward and somewhat painful. I finally returned home upon starting my senior year of high school. Upon graduating from high school, I attended the University of Oklahoma where I later graduated with a B.A in Sociology. After college, I spontaneously decided to teach English in Taiwan. During my time in Taiwan, I learned a lot about Taiwanese culture and language. It was here that I relieved how much I enjoyed teaching and decided that I had to go back to school. In the Summer of 2016, I went back to school to pursue my Master's degree in International Education.I am now in my 4th year of teaching overseas, and I could not be happier. By growing up around so many different cultures and customs as a child, it has helped me to find common ground with almost anyone that I come across. Most importantly, it has helped me to connect with my multicultural students and their families. In my previous position as a 1st-gradeteacher at the American International School in Conakry, I made it clear to both the students and parents that I wanted to set a positive and inspirational learning environment. During activities, I encourage students to speak in their native language to convey thoughts and feelings about specific pieces of literature or to deconstruct a difficult math problem. By speaking both their local language and English, they were able to communicate and collaborate more effectively and thus were more likely to take risks and learn from them. In my current position as a 3rd grade teacher in Saudi Arabia, It is not uncommon for someone to walk into my classroom and see several students nestled in the reading corner, reading a "Just right" book, or to see students using Seesaw to demonstrate their knowledge of various text structures in a nonfiction book. Successful test taking is as much a product of understanding the test itself as it is the material being covered, and having one on one guidance in understanding how to take a test can markedly improve a score. An important part of gaining that understanding is working in the ways that each student learns best. I completed my Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education at the University of Southern Mississippi, after which I spent two years teaching middle school and high school band full-time. As a second generation Mexican American, I grew up watching my parents struggle to make ends meet, in the absence of a college education. My father never gave up, and though it took him almost two decades, he graduated from college two days before I graduated from high school. My passion for education and in helping others succeed is based solely on my life experience as the child of a first generation parent.I have worked with students throughout my entire educational career. From volunteering at the Special Olympics in my youth, to being a graduate teaching assistant, to being a professor, helping students learn in adaptive ways has always been a passion for me. I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. My education before college was rather unorthodox, in that I was homeschooled by my mother, who brought in students who needed more individual attention than was being provided for them in public or even private school. Having been educated in such an atmosphere through grade 12 has blessed me both with the experience of having watched quality tutoring occur every day and of tutoring others from a very young age.
