Hello! My name is Kenneth Davis, and I am in the final semester of completing my bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, and computer science at the University of Kentucky. Throughout high school and college, I have consistently earned a spot on the Dean's List while dedicating much of my free time to tutoring friends and family in advanced math and computer science topics. My passion for these subjects drives my career ambition to apply mathematical and computational modeling directly to financial markets. Because I work with these complex concepts daily, I excel at breaking them down into simple, intuitive steps for students of all levels. I would love to help you build confidence and master these subjects!
After spending 30 years as an attorney in Kentucky, I decided in my retirement to return to my first love, teaching. I completed my undergraduate degree in English / Language Arts, but then decided to pursue my Juris Doctorate. I have practiced in courts throughout the state, but found the greatest satisfaction working with at-risk kids in the juvenile court system. Consequently, when I retired two years ago, I decided to spend my second career in education. I am pursuing my Rank II and my specialist certification in LBD (Learning and Behavior Disorders) education. I have also had the opportunity to work in adult education, as I was called upon to host continuing legal education training and to teach classes for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training. Because of my long career in government, I also very much enjoy teaching social studies and criminal justice programs. I feel that bringing real world experience on top of academia lends me a unique perspective in those areas.
I have been teaching math for 18 years and I have taught at all levels of math. I enjoy helping others learn to enjoy math as well.
I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma (master) and the University of Kentucky (bachelors) I received my Bachelor degree in Education with a focus on math and science. Since graduation, I have served in the military, tutored around the world as well as in multiple states in the U.S., and taught full-time in Virginia. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, and Science. I feel most fulfilled when my students have those "Ah-Ha" moments and are able to overcome academic struggles. I believe in making concrete real-world connections, as well as chunking and breaking difficult concepts into manageable pieces to find student success. I believe a strong education will build a foundation for each of my students.
My goal is to meet students where they are in order to support them in their learning. By understanding each student's unique interests, learning styles, and academic abilities, I will assist them in meeting their learning goals. As far as my experience in education goes, I taught elementary school for five years. I've taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and K-4 Reading Intervention. After those five years, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at home upon the birth of my son. While staying at home with him, I earned my Yoga Teacher Training certification. Currently, I am a yoga instructor, and I'm looking to get back into education.
I am a master's candidate graduate student at the University of Kentucky. I am furthering my education in Mechanical Engineering, and thus have taken many courses focusing on science, math, and engineering. I received my BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
