Reading a novel for class and actually analyzing it are two very different skills — one requires attention, the other requires a framework. Patricia teaches students to identify how literary devices like symbolism, unreliable narration, and structural choices shape meaning, then turn those observations into arguments. Her own writing background means she can also coach the analytical essay side, from thesis construction to textual evidence.

Close reading is where literature clicks — noticing how a shift in narrative voice or a recurring image reshapes the meaning of an entire text. Kenan's background in AP English Literature and his analytical training in economics give him a sharp eye for argument and structure in everything from Shakespeare to Toni Morrison.
Reading literature through an analytical lens — identifying motifs, unpacking symbolism, tracing how an author builds a thematic argument — is a skill that transfers across every discipline. Nivedina approaches literary analysis the way she approaches scientific research: by teaching students to build interpretive claims from textual evidence and defend them clearly. Her cross-disciplinary perspective makes close reading feel less like guesswork and more like structured inquiry.
I am most passionate about biology and chemistry. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students.
The IB program exposed Kinjal to literature from across the globe — postcolonial novels, philosophical essays, poetry traditions outside the Western canon — and she learned to analyze texts through multiple cultural lenses. That breadth shows up in how she teaches close reading, thesis construction, and literary analysis, whether the text is Beloved or The Stranger. Rated 5.0 by students.
As an English major at Rice, Natalie spends her days inside novels, poems, and plays — unpacking everything from narrative voice in Toni Morrison to meter in Shakespeare's sonnets. She teaches students to build interpretive arguments by grounding every claim in specific textual evidence, a skill that transforms vague "I think" responses into sharp literary analysis.
An avid reader and writer outside her engineering coursework, Alisa approaches literature through close analysis of how authors build arguments with language — examining metaphor, narrative structure, and thematic development rather than just summarizing plot. She teaches students to annotate actively and construct thesis-driven interpretations that hold up under scrutiny. That analytical rigor, sharpened by her honors research at UT Dallas, translates directly into stronger literary essays.
An avid reader herself, Siyu digs into literary analysis by teaching students how to trace motifs, unpack symbolism, and build arguments about a text's deeper meaning. Her arts background at NYU sharpens the way she approaches close reading — connecting authorial choices in diction and structure to the larger themes a work explores.
While math is Kavitya's primary strength, her education at the Texas Academy of Math and Science and the University of Chicago demanded serious engagement with literary analysis and close reading. She approaches literature analytically — breaking down how an author's choices in structure, imagery, or point of view build meaning in a text. That systematic thinking gives students a repeatable method for tackling poems, novels, and essays.
I am currently a senior at Emory University studying chemistry and applied math with a focus on inorganic chemistry. I will be available to tutor algebra, trigonometry, algebra 2, biology, chemistry, calculus, geometry, pre- calculus, and ACT prep. I started tutoring in high school and continued tutoring at Emory where I tutored general chemistry, introductory biology, and calculus for two years. Apart from academic tutoring, I am also involved in Project SHINE which teaches English to recent Atlanta immigrants. I believe that education (no matter what kind) is crucial in life, but I also strive to emphasize why something is important. In my experience, most students struggle with something because they don't understand exactly why it is important or simply do not care. I am heavily involved in academic research at Emory so I am able to help a student understand exactly why a specific subject area is important and how it is continuously applied both in the lab and in the real world to improve our lives. It's always easier to see the physical and practical applications of a subject than try to visualize its importance on paper. In my spare time I enjoy chemistry, ancient Roman history, jam bands, running, cycling, and scuba diving.
Hamza approaches literature as a puzzle not unlike the data analysis he does in bioinformatics — identifying patterns, tracing motifs, and building an interpretation from textual evidence. Whether a student is unpacking symbolism in a novel or constructing a thesis about a poem's structure, he teaches them to read like someone building an argument, not just summarizing a plot.
Reading and writing are among Sunny's core hobbies, and that genuine love for books shows up in how she approaches literary analysis. She teaches students to dig into narrative structure, figurative language, and thematic development by asking precise questions about the text rather than handing over pre-packaged interpretations.
