Before moving to Ohio for college, I enjoyed the California sunshine and all of the outdoor activities that it had to offerwhen I could find the free time of course. Most of my high school afternoons were spent volunteering at my local emergency room; cooking and preparing food at a nearby homeless shelter; or providing free tutoring to elementary students living at or near the poverty line. When Im not working with younger students, I enjoy tutoring courses like Spanish, Biology, and Environmental Science because they really push students to understand and not just memorize. I know that I have instilled them with the confidence necessary to succeed in the course when my student can explain the content back to me in their own words.
