I am currently entering into my second year as a certified 7th grade math teacher at YES Prep Northbrook, but my experiences with teaching, tutoring, and mentoring expand beyond my first year of teaching in the classroom. I have interned in K-12 public schools in Maryland and worked on addressing student’s personal/social, academic, and college and career needs through various interventions. Specifically, I have designed, delivered, and implemented college and career curriculum to student populations from elementary through secondary school. Furthermore, in addition to my work in secondary schools, I have had a total of four years of experience counseling, mentoring, and tutoring students within higher education. I worked for two years as a peer counselor to undergraduate students while pursuing my undergraduate education at UCLA and two additional years as a graduate assistant advisor, advising undergraduate students within the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland, College Park. In addition, I volunteered as a math tutor through a program called AVID, in which I worked with middle school students within a school who were struggling with basic math concepts. Finally, I was able to gain valuable teaching experience as well as involvement in designing and delivering relevant workshops to serve students’ needs. My most comprehensive experience thus far in terms of tutoring, mentoring, and teaching students has come through my first year of teaching 7th grade math. I have learned how to create, implement, and assess curriculum, lesson plans, and student assessments. I have worked with a diverse population of students, and try to fit my curriculum to meet their various needs. Our curriculum ranged from basic skills, to algebra, financial literacy, geometry, and probability, among many other areas of math. For these aforementioned reasons, I believe I would be an excellent math tutor for any student needing assistance k-12.
