I received my J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and my B.A. from Cornell University. In college, I majored in Russian and French, and before law school, I spent two years teaching English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine. In the years since, I have provided ESL tutoring to students with a diversity of backgrounds, ages, and nationalities. During law school, I taught full-length LSAT courses and provided private LSAT tutoring for a test preparation company. Indeed, I have a special place in my heart for the LSAT, and I think it's a test that becomes much more manageable with a lot of practice and a solid understanding of its mechanics. I just moved to the Bay Area from Alaska, where I clerked for a judge in Dillingham, a remote town accessible only by plane. Needless to say, I love the outdoors, and when I'm not working, I like to spend my time hiking, biking, or exploring Oakland with my dog, Cyrus.

Hi there! A little bit about myself: I graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism and a minor in Business Management. I am currently attending UCLA School of Dentistry. I have spent a big chunk of my life tutoring. I had 600 hours of volunteer experience tutoring 5th graders in language. I also was the Tutoring Head of the Science National Honor Society in high school and spent every week tutoring high school level biology and chemistry. I spent one summer working at Kumon tutoring children in basic math and reading. In college, I spent two years tutoring adults to pass their GED. I was also an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for a development and physiology biology class, as well as a Peer Tutor for other intro level biology classes. If you chose me as your tutor, I look forward to working with you and helping you be the best student you can be!

I have been lucky enough to have many great experience so far in my life. I was a Korean translator in the US Army for eight years. After serving in the Army, I went to Riverside Community College and then San Diego State, where I majored in English and minored in Asian Studies. I've since earned a teaching credential and Master's in Education from National University, and worked as a high school English and Spanish teacher for most of 2001-2013. Outside of “work,” I like to travel and to learn foreign languages. I've traveled a fair bit in Asia and Europe, and hope see South America soon. I live near San Diego State University now, and have lived in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and various places around the country. I also love old cars and reading, especially historical fiction.I can tutor English, Spanish, Social Studies, Math (up through Algebra I), and standardized test preparation. I especially like tutoring Spanish, literature, and history. I really enjoy tutoring because I get to help people and I love learning! I believe that it is easiest to learn when we can make personal connections with what we are studying, so I seek out ways to connect the learning to your experiences. I also believe that learning is more effective when it is fun and when it is done in a multi-sensory manner, so I utilize multimedia, tactile learning, and music as part of my tutoring. I'll work hard to ensure you are learning the knowledge and skills to be successful!

I completed my undergraduate education in three years at Georgetown University in Washington, DC where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service. I then attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where I was part of the Partners in Los Angeles Education (PLACE) Corps. There I earned my Master of Arts in Secondary Education and my California Single Subject Clear Credential with an authorization in social science. I am currently in the process of adding an English authorization to my credential. I will return to Loyola Marymount to work on a second Master's degree in the Fall.I have been in the classroom for almost four years teaching social studies, religion, and English to grades 5 - 12. I have experience at both the high school and middle school levels. I also was previously a coach for the Catholic School's Junior High Academic Decathlon for multiple subjects. I regularly hold tutoring for my students have much experience tutoring a variety of subjects at the middle school level.I am in education because it is a constantly changing field where one can always work on improving one's teaching. I enjoy the challenges of teaching and tutoring because it means that no two days are ever the same. In addition, I enjoy using research based methods in education. I also believe in empowering students to reach their goals.I enjoy cooking on my free time, researching topics in Junior High Academic Decathlon, and keeping up with my friends.

Years ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I studied math at the University of Virginia. I was a transfer student, as I started my education in the community college system. I ultimately got my BA in Mathematics with a minor in Education. My plan was to finish college and go immediately into teaching high school math. As it turned out, that didn't happen. I got side-tracked and, enjoying math so much, I stuck around UVA for another two years and earned a MS in Math. I then got drafted by the NSA and did cyptopgraphy for a few years. Now I'm back on (the education) track. I've been teaching math and statistics at ITT-Tech for a few years and, so far, I've taught two sections of college algebra at El Camino Community College. I've also been tutoring math since high school. When I attended Central Virginia Community College, I worked in the math lab, administering tests and tutoring fellow students. I prefer to tutor algebra, statistics, or calculus, but any level of math is fine as well.

I received my undergraduate degree from U.C.-Berkeley with a major in political science, and minors in Spanish and Russian language. My master's degrees, from the University of Texas at Austin, are in Public Affairs and Russian/Eastern European studies. I have lived in Russia and traveled extensively throughout South America. I tutor English (grammar and composition), Spanish, history, and public speaking. I believe that education can (and should) be fun, and that teaching and tutoring are much more effective when the student is happy and engaged. My approach to tutoring is to listen carefully to each student so I can get a sense of what it is about the particular subject that they find challenging. I enjoy teaching, and I have tutored Spanish to native English speakers as well as taught English as a Second Language (ESL) for the state of Arizona. As someone who has learned both Spanish and Russian through classroom instruction, I find it rewarding to help students enjoy the challenges of learning a foreign language at school. As someone who loves to read and write, I also enjoy working with students on the challenges of essay composition and reading comprehension. My theater background has also prepared me well to help students who struggle with public speaking. In my spare time, I love to work on various design projects around my house, practice yoga, spend time with my dog, and train for a backpacking trip I plan to take through Europe next year.
