I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Therefore, I plan to adjust methods in order to cater to the needs of the student.I am currently applying for medical school. I am a caring person and it is my hope that I will be able to learn and grow together with my clients.

Hi there! I'm Arian. I graduated from Wesleyan University with degrees in English and Environmental Studies, with a focus on creative writing. For my senior thesis, I wrote a 50-page epic poem that intertwined the geobiological evolution of the earth with my family history.I've been tutoring intermittently since my freshman year of high school--from one-on-one, subject-specific tutoring to coaching my high school speech team to teaching saxophone lessons at an arts center to leading writing workshops for disenfranchised boys at the Juvenile Detention Center near my university.I believe that anyone can learn anything as long they approach it from the ground up. As such, I strive to ensure students understand material at a foundational and conceptual level before advancing into specifics. Furthermore, I believe the learning process should be as exciting and collaborative as possible, and that each lesson should be tailored to a student's particular learning styles and needs.Bottom line, I love working with people and helping them grasp intimidating concepts. Learning should be exhilarating, and I always try to facilitate that thrill. I welcome feedback from my students and their parents, because I want to be the best tutor I can be for each individual I'm working with. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or to schedule a lesson.

I attended school at University of California, Los Angeles and I have lived most of my life in LA. I enjoy teaching both Math and Physics. Every time that I step into the classroom I become energized even if I am very tired. My enthusiasm and energy are very contagious, and the students leave behind their negative attitudes towards the subjects and get engaged in learning them. At the end, the students come out with a very positive experience after taking the classes. When I am not teaching, I am out playing soccer, hiking, or fishing.

I graduated from Wilmington University in Delaware with a master of education degree (K-6). Shortly thereafter, I took the Praxis II exam for social studies (economics, history, civics and geography). What do I bring to the table? I bring leadership, motivation, humor, and a unique perspective. I served in the United States Army for over twenty years. I was responsible for teaching and training during most of my career. Specifically, I taught at the Northern Warfare Training Center in Alaska, the 101st Airborne Division Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, I was a Drill Sergeant at the Infantry School and my final assignment, I was the Senior Military Instructor at the University of Maryland (College Park). As a civilian, I have worked as a substitute teacher for Kelly Educational Services, I taught 6th grade social studies in the Colonial School District in Delaware, substituted in Escondido Union School District (language arts), and I am currently an active teacher at a charter school where I teach elementary classes as well as middle and high school social studies.Teaching is more than just instruction. It is about being passionate towards education and the future of our students. Fundamentally, all students are teachable. It is my responsibility to find what motivates each student and use that, along with respect, care, and concern for each individual, to engage each student in his or her own learning process. Students are our nation’s greatest assets, this I will never forget.Students in my classes receive direct instruction and learn from wide-ranging instructional techniques that enhance the classroom environment. My enthusiasm is contagious. Students feed from my enthusiasm, making learning fun and exciting. In my daily reflection, I focus on three questions: What was supposed to happen? What did happen? How can I make it better next time? These answers guide me to; improved lesson plans, better organization, and enhanced relationships with parents, administrators, teachers and students.I recognize that I am not alone in the classroom. There are many professionals available to assist me throughout my educational journey. I consult these experts and others to enhance my own teaching abilities, as well as offer suggestions to others as to what does and what does not work in my classroom. I continually seek self-improvement through professional development, mentoring and education. I believe in the team concept. It takes a village to teach a student. I am part of that village.Teaching is a proud and respected profession. I will not disgrace the honor of the profession by violating, or giving the perception of violating, the ethical and legal principles that make our profession proud. Choices I make directly influence my students. I am not just a teacher, but a role model as well. I bear that responsibility with pride. When I'm not teaching, I can be found tinkering around on my Camaro, or maybe at the horse ranch with our horses. I am an outdoors kind of guy, and I'm always planning the next great adventure.

After graduating from UC San Diego with a Bachelor's Degree in Literature/Writing I spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in Ukraine. In addition to teaching fourth through eleventh graders in the classroom, I worked with motivated students individually to prepare them for academic competitions and qualifying tests for study abroad programs. I also led English clubs in the city library where I helped university students and adults improve their conversational skills and their knowledge of the English speaking world. It was an immensely rewarding and formative experience, from which I gained the ability to tailor my teaching methods to meet the needs of every individual I worked with and to overcome language and cultural barriers through patience, understanding, and a good sense of humor. While I enjoy teaching the mechanics of Englishwhether as a first language or secondmy true love is Literature. As an undergrad at UCSD I tutored small groups of fellow students in writing fiction and poetry, leading workshops and facilitating peer critique. I was also one of two undergraduate students invited to enroll in UCSD's first MFA poetry workshop. In my spare time I love to read, write, ride bicycles, hike, surf, garden, cook, and travel. This summer I went on a road trip across America that only left me wanting to see more! I also enjoy bookmaking and linocut printing, though my graphic design skills leave something to be desired.

I recently received my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State. I've always loved puzzles and problem solving, so naturally math and science have always been my strong suits. As a matter of fact, Calculus was, and still is, my favorite subject. As an Engineer I am also well grounded in Physics and Chemistry. I've always been a good test-taker and I know what it takes to get the grades. I know that it can make a huge difference to have some one-on-one help. I like to have fun with whatever I do, but more than anything, I want to make a difference. In my free time I love to play and listen to music or play any kinds of sports (especially ultimate frisbee).

I am a junior studying Writing for Screen and Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. For the past two spring semesters I worked as a CollegeSpring Mentor, tutoring Green Dot Charter high school juniors for the SAT and teaching them predatory skills for college. In addition to my experience tutoring for the SAT, as a screenwriting major I most enjoy teaching my favorite subject, English. I love showing students the power language endows upon them to communicate their ideas and beliefs with others. I believe every student deserves the chance to succeed and to try to capitalize on their strengths while encouraging them to improve in areas they may traditionally find challenging. Endowing a student with confidence in themselves through patience and support is the best way not only to improve academic performance, but also transform them into lifelong learners. I try to share not only my passion for knowledge with students, but also my love of sports (football, baseball, and softball), action films, and global affairs. Seeing students not only improve academically but also show improved confidence and happiness is the most rewarding part of my job.
