I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. In addition to teaching fourth through eleventh graders in the classroom, I worked with motivated students individually to prepare them for academic competitions and qualifying tests for study abroad programs. I also led English clubs in the city library where I helped university students and adults improve their conversational skills and their knowledge of the English speaking world. It was an immensely rewarding and formative experience, from which I gained the ability to tailor my teaching methods to meet the needs of every individual I worked with and to overcome language and cultural barriers through patience, understanding, and a good sense of humor.While I enjoy teaching the mechanics of Englishwhether as a first language or secondmy true love is Literature. In college, one of her favorite activities was volunteering as a teaching artist with Seesaw Theatre, a company she helped found that creates multi-sensory theatrical experiences for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has experience working with students ages 5-18 and with individuals of varying abilities.

I recently received my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State. I've always loved puzzles and problem solving, so naturally math and science have always been my strong suits. As a matter of fact, Calculus was, and still is, my favorite subject. As an Engineer I am also well grounded in Physics and Chemistry. I've always been a good test-taker and I know what it takes to get the grades. I know that it can make a huge difference to have some one-on-one help. I like to have fun with whatever I do, but more than anything, I want to make a difference. In my free time I love to play and listen to music or play any kinds of sports (especially ultimate frisbee).

For the past two spring semesters I worked as a CollegeSpring Mentor, tutoring Green Dot Charter high school juniors for the SAT and teaching them predatory skills for college. In addition to my experience tutoring for the SAT, as a screenwriting major I most enjoy teaching my favorite subject, English. I love showing students the power language endows upon them to communicate their ideas and beliefs with others. I believe every student deserves the chance to succeed and to try to capitalize on their strengths while encouraging them to improve in areas they may traditionally find challenging. Endowing a student with confidence in themselves through patience and support is the best way not only to improve academic performance, but also transform them into lifelong learners.
