I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Virginia and my Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. Additionally, I spent several years as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University studying Biology, with a focus on Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Electrophysiology. I recently moved to Seattle with my husband who is a new professor at the University of Washington. I enjoy teaching and working with students, and up until our recent move to Seattle, I have had the luxury of being surrounded by them while studying or working in various academic environments. Tutoring now provides me with the one-on-one teaching experience that I enjoy so much. My strong background in Chemistry and Biology and my passion for teaching allow me to find just the right way to explain even the most difficult of subjects. In my free time I enjoy getting out for a daily run, hiking in the mountains around Seattle, reading a good book, and sewing.

I have a Master's in Biology from VCU in which my focus was on population genetics. I have worked with a wide range of students over the course of many years. I began tutoring and teaching in college, where I also taught courses in Biology, and have since worked with students aged 5-12 with a program called Mad Science. I am currently a certified teacher, where I teach gifted children at the high school level. Over the past few years, I have tutored SOL prep in Biology, Math and Chemistry. In addition to my work with Varsity Tutors, I am also teaching Biology at a community college, and am tutoring in an after school program at an elementary school. Not only have I worked with a wide range of students, I also have experience with ESL students, gifted students, and students with disabilities. Teaching is my passion, and I truly enjoy it!

I grew up just north of Washington D.C, and went to college and physical therapy school at Simmons College in Boston, MA. I graduated in 2011 with my BS in Exercise Science and again in 2013 with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy.I began tutoring students in my undergraduate career, starting with writing. I believe education is extremely important and that students should have access to as many resources as possible. I believe in actively involving the student in the tutoring session so they not only learn the material, they retain the material making them more likely to succeed in the future. During physical therapy school, I continued tutoring writing to both undergraduate and graduate students in addition to exercise science, anatomy and physiology, biology as well as graduate students in gross anatomy and other PT courses.I currently work full time at an outpatient manual orthopedic physical therapy clinic. In my free time, I enjoy running, pure barre, and spending time with my husband and adopted lab mix dog!

I have a passion for helping and serving kids in any way that I can. I have worked with kids for the majority of my life via church ministries, school programs, and in the workplace. I have tutored students successfully and I am ready to dive into a more formal program where I can engage with students on an academic level even more. My philosophy for learning is repetition, motivation, and confidence. And above all of these things, leaning must be enjoyable and fun. Stressful learning will get students nowhere. When I work with children, I immediately establish a bond, a relationship of comfort and excitement. I want my students to be comfortable and to love asking questions. I am sure that my love for kids and my own academic achievements will make me a great tutor for Varsity Tutors. I will help my students to enjoy learning and to succeed in all of their subjects. I also understand that learning is not an overnight process. Patience is certainly required. I know how kids are and I have the ability to read them well. This quality of mine will also aid in my ability to be a successful tutor. I am so excited to be considered for this role and I hope that I can make differences in students' lives.

I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish at The Ohio State University with a focus in Iberian Studies and Latin American Literature. I am currently finishing my Master's of Science in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University in the City of New York. Although a large majority of my work is within the humanities and the medical humanities, I am currently applying to medical school; therefore, I have taken all of the required science courses and labs and taken the MCAT. I enjoy both the science and "humanity" of medicine, and my education reflects that: I have a vast range of experience in the humanities from foreign language to literary theory to philosophy, and also in the sciences from modern physics to physiology. My teaching style is heavily based on having the student actively articulate their thoughts aloud. Thus, when I tutor I encourage students to interact, reflect, and engage in "meta-cognition," thinking about thinking. I also can do "lecture-style" sessions, but only to supplement discussion. My goal is for students to have a conceptual understanding of the material, structured reasoning skills, and confidence in their abilities. I have been a guest lecturer for a medical humanities course at the University of Connecticut for pre-medical students, taught a narrative medicine course at Columbia for pre-medical students and post-baccalaureate students, and I am will continue this year assisting with courses at the narrative medicine program.Outside of academics, I enjoy exercise (weight-lifting), television (Doctor Who, Sherlock, etc), and films. I read excessively and indiscriminately: from a Philip K. Dick science fiction novel, to a Warren Ellis comic book, to Pablo Neruda's poetry, to Derrida's philosophy.

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Education in Exercise and Sports Science. For the last several years I have been working as a personal trainer, certified first through the American College of Sports Medicine and now through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I am currently in my first year in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Georgia State University. At UGA I worked as a Lab Teaching Assistant for both Anatomy and Physiology and 2, and I picked up tutoring experience in chemistry, biology and exercise physiology. My favorite subject to tutor is anatomy and physiology because every time I teach someone else, I learn something new about the incredible human body that we live in every day. Some of my favorite hobbies include working out, reading, finding new parks and trails to explore with my dog and learning something new.

I thoroughly enjoy both teaching and learning. Through my work as a teacher and a tutor, I hope to inspire a love of learning and of science in my students.I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology. I worked in research for a short period of time before I decided to pursue teaching. I took classes to earn my certificate and then completed my Masters degree in Educational Technology. I have been teaching for 10 years. At my most recent school, I taught high school Biology and AP Biology. I love working with students, helping them to figure things out, and challenging them. Every student learns differently. I enjoy tutoring because I can work with an individual student, learn how that student learns best, and really help him or her to achieve confidence and a high level of comprehension. To truly understand and love science, a student needs to be able to question effectively, problem solve, and think critically. These skills are skills that can be developed most effectively through individualized instruction. I love helping students to excel and to love science. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two young daughters. We enjoy spending time outside during the nice weather, going to the amusement park, playing on the playground, and taking our dog for long walks. Personally, I also enjoy reading and anything related to science.
