I am a recent graduate from Metropolitan State University of Denver. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with a concentration in Elementary Education. Since graduation, I have been working as a paraprofessional in Denver to support K-5 students with disabilities in both literacy and math. It has always been my passion to provide effective, respectful and data-driven instruction to students with disabilities, as I have lived with multiple disabilities my whole life. My goal is to support children and families who need help navigating the world of education. As someone who has worked as a K-12 paraprofessional and who has had experience in the classroom teaching literacy and math topics, I am dedicated to providing my students with a safe, structured, and meaningful learning environment. When I am not teaching, I enjoy the incredible outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer with my dog, Monty, and more recently have enjoyed roller-skating in my neighborhood!

I had the privilege of growing up in Mexico and was able to learn the language as a native speaker. I received my teaching degree in Alberta, Canada. In my 20 years of teaching and tutoring, I have encouraged students from Kindergarten through college levels. I home-schooled my 3 children for 4 years before enrolling them in a Christian School, where I taught High School Spanish for 9 years. I have a BRE (Bachelor of Religious Education); ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International); and have been a chaplain of Boy Scouts of America for 4 years. I love the Spanish language and feel that anyone who can achieve the art of learning it has opened a whole new horizon for themselves. I enjoy adjusting my teaching style to the student's learning style. When I'm not teaching I enjoy cooking, baking, sewing, reading, or watching movies with my family.

I am a licensed Pre-K to 6th grade teacher from the Richmond, VA area. I graduated in 2012 from Virginia Commonwealth University with my Masters in Teaching for Early and Elementary Education. I have done post-graduate coursework for working with Gifted and Talented students. I am in my fifth year teaching and currently teaching in a private Kindergarten. Limitations will always be present in the system of formal instruction. There will always be inequities, misrepresentation, and poor decision making, but that does not have to compromise the student. Children, regardless of perceived ability, ought to be taught to wonder, developing a resonating curiosity for the world around thema stimulant for the insatiable appetite of the inquiring mind. I believe in differentiation through play. I believe in lessons that are designed to take in the consideration the values of freedom and creativity. If students are provided with only a limited set of acceptable responses, then, as teachers, we cannot expect them to respond with fervor or 100% accuracy, as various learning needs dictate a demand for delineation. Play is applicable to all. My perspective is not limited to only those on the spectrum. Children are a product of their environment. They are malleable. They are all deserving. I believe in educating the whole child for all children.

I have been teaching and private tutoring for many years. I feel I am quite good at figuring out how to help a child understand something by presenting the material to them in different ways until they understand. I have taught in situations over the years where without training I have had to learn how to accommodate students with different learning styles.

I believe this experience with a diverse mix of students has sharpened my skills as a tutor, particularly in the arena of creating interesting and clear examples through which different students can understand complex material. Although I tutor a wide variety of subjects, I most enjoy tutoring elementary and high school level math because I can be creative in designing examples. The current non-profits I work with include one offering health training and a wellness center in Haiti, a foundation that fosters leadership through preparing disadvantaged youth for college & a program that provides education/career counseling to families who have survived domestic violence.As a child, I had multiple disabilities that could have derailed my life. Instead, they fortified my desire to learn as much as possible, spawning over 50 hobbies and a general desire to improve the world around me.
