I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and am working on getting my Special Education teaching degree at the moment. I have a background with tutoring in Writing and Reading subjects. I also have worked on resume building and college applications. My objective is to help students use different strategies and learning styles to capture their full learning potential.

The most fundamental aspect of tutoring, to me, lies in promoting dialogues, as opposed to monologues. I want my students to see my passion for what I teach, and in turn I want to find out what makes them ask more questions and arrive at more answers -- overall, for them to be able to determine where their own passions lie. This could be as elemental as applying their interests to whatever it is they are studying, be it finding literary bits about ancient sport to practice Latin grammar or envisioning the perfect essay in relation to a perfect layer cake.My students have ranged from the pre-K to university levels. For each student, I put a strong emphasis on personalizing their studies to their needs and interests. My passions as a scholar lie in the humanities -- my two and a half years in the pre-medical program at Fordham notwithstanding -- particularly in American and European history, literature and Latin. In the fall, I aim to apply to graduate school for classical studies, and I anticipate tutoring with Varsity to be very instrumental in getting me back into an academic mode of thinking. I am excited to learn from my students while also imparting some of my excitement for and interest in my various disciplines.When I'm not working, I love to read, write, attend concerts, visit museums, travel and eat -- I'm working through a massive, ever-expanding list of recipes to try. Recent triumphs have included borscht, rice pudding, focaccia and, most proudly, perfectly poached eggs.

There I had the pleasure of teaching dance to a large range of ages and abilities. My experiences have varied from teaching Taiwanese school children to conducting workshops at Brown University. Throughout my education, I tutored students in a variety of academic disciplines. I am most passionate about psychology, statistics, and writing, and also enjoy helping students learn how to be better test takers. In my experience, preparing for Standardized Tests such as the SAT and ACT can be empowering. By ensuring that students master both the content and format of the test, they will be able to walk in on test day feeling calm and confident. My endeavors, domestic and abroad, have taught me to identify how a student best learns and help them approach conceptual roadblocks with creativity. I strongly believe in the importance of education. I consider it to be not only necessary to one's success, but also something that can be fun and extremely rewarding. Honestly, that is not everyone's vision. Some of us do not desire to be average. Some of us do not desire to settle for a life of mediocrity.Some of us do not desire to let the talents and ideas given to us from higher powers go to waste all because we wanted to please someone else by fitting ourselves into their boxes. The world is constantly evolving and us as a species, we must evolve with it.I believe that the freedom of expression, whether it be in the humanities, performing arts, activism or essential services will help us to evolve and become more accepting of our differences. I've had the pleasure to use my aptitude for writing and performing to touch souls and hearts from all walks of life.My passion to heal the traumas of those that came before me along with my own gives me the fuel that I need to continue being of service to others as a beacon of light to show you no matter what life throws at you, never let that stop you in your tracks!

I have taught high school social studies and Spanish language in Los Angeles and Niwot, Colorado, Boulder County. I successfully teamed with an English and art instructor in LA to teach an art centered thematic curriculum that was underwritten by The Getty Center. While teaching I won two National Endowment of the Humanities summer teacher grants to study at Georgetown University and the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain.I began learning Spanish while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Choluteca, Honduras. I have studied in Mexico and Spain as well as completing a BA in Spanish at Portland State. I am also a professional chef having trained at the California Culinary Academy(now Cordon Bleu) in SFO. I also am a tour director, guide and driver working with student groups in DC and the NE US and conducting tours in the Southwest with small Spanish & English groups.

I've taught in inner city programs working with at-risk youth, I've helped prepare students for entry into college, worked with differently abled students facing their own unique challenges, and everything in between. I personally enjoy the process of getting to know a student, finding out exactly what it is that they need to be successful, and then helping them shorten their learning curve. I am a current Game Design Major at the University of Central Florida, with a minor in Creative Writing and certificate in German language. I was very involved in my high school's honor societies and band program, and through these have taught many students, be it in music or academics. I have also worked as a Graphic Designer, both for volunteer work as well as paid gigs, and have proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator. Likewise, I have studied writing since high school and was the Editor-in-Chief for Valencia College's Phoenix Magazine, in which I wrote, edited, and revised work. I have often used the above opportunities to mentor people before, and find it exciting to pass on whatever tips and tricks I've learned along the way, as well as bond with others in a shared subject.

I've grown up always knowing I wanted to be engaged in a creative field empowering young people, specifically anything related to writing or the arts. I did a creative seminar at camp with a small co-ed group of young students, and the poems and thoughts some of those children came up with were simultaneously moving, insightful, wacky, and hilarious in a way that the best adult writers could only hope for. The best part of it all was that it was the writers themselves, not me, who insisted we get up on stage and act out their words for the small audience. There is nothing more gratifying me than being along for the ride while kids create and discover the person they're becoming.
