My academic record as a Business Administration major with a Finance Concentration, a Philosophy minor, at Washington and Lee University illustrate my ability to tutor enterprising students. In college, I was the proud recipient of the H.J. Heinz Corporation Scholarship; a full-tuition award complete with 2 internships, given to outstanding academic leaders. I nerd out on grammar technique, but I love hiking, kayaking and playing volleyball.I got married on NYE in the middle of the pandemic and am loving being newly married.I started a non-profit to support students in October 2019 and hope to be able to work full-time running that and part-time supporting students here b/c I believe in the next generation and understand the value of one-on-one support!

I received my Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development with a focus on Early Childhood Education.Since graduating, I have taught Pre-Kindergarten, 6th grade, 5th grade Reading, and 1st Grade - the last 9 years spent teaching 1st! While I have taught a broad range of subjects, my heart lies with the fundamentals of reading and phonics! I love seeing the growth students are able to achieve as they learn to read and the pride they have in themselves once they realize they are readers and writers. The "aha!" moments are one of the best parts of what I do!I am a firm believer in the Science of Teaching Reading, the "why" behind the math, and being as hands-on as possible in science. I have also worked with Ascension Medical Educators, a clinical advising services firm for underrepresented and underserved minorities looking to enter the profession of medicine. As a motivated student and a veteran test taker, I maintain that learning can be fun and test-taking doesn't have to be tedious. In addition to tutoring, I also teach drama, sing, and play piano.
