I am a recent Tufts University grad with a degree in chemical physics and environmental studies. I am a dual citizen of the United States and Sweden and apparently sleep talk in both languages. My biggest passion is the preservation of the environment, and I hope to start a career as an environmental scientist. As a young middle school student, I required a tutor to improve my reading and writing skills; I was a Polish immigrant, and was struggling with English. I can empathize with younger students who are struggling and need someone, as I once did, to make them as enthusiastic about learning as I am now.In my capacity as a private middle school and high school tutor for both math and biology, I have had the opportunity to help other students for a year now. I've used my love of learning to help me work with students who have struggled with their courses. Tutoring students who did not enjoy algebra taught me to appeal to a student's interests in order to find ways to make the material more accessible and relevant.I used to struggle in math. I found the concepts hard to grasp and sometimes beyond my reach. But with hard work and some guidance, I eventually excelled. I can understand why certain concepts are difficult to learn for some students. I've therefore found it very rewarding to put mathematical concepts and principles into words that the student will be able to understand. Sitting down and delving into problems with students during office hours was always one of my favorite aspects of the job. I am currently transitioning back into full time chemical research but would like to keep a connection to students through tutoring.I have designed and taught courses in Introductory, Physical, and Atmospheric Chemistry at the college level. For each of these subjects, I have used multiple textbooks and am familiar with different approaches to presenting the material. In addition to my time on the faculty at Trinity, I worked for half a year at Haverford College, another liberal arts college. I also served as a teaching assistant and tutor during my graduate work at the University of Chicago and won teaching awards from the chemistry department.
