Good education, I believe is one of the most important gifts you can give to a child.I started my interest in imparting knowledge to others in Middle School. In a program called Peer to Peer, I learned to mentor lower grade students in subjects that were challenging them. For me English, both reading and writing, were always my subjects of choice. Later on, in High School, I started tutoring not by design but in an informal way. I was always available to help edit essays, proof read papers or formulate theses.I am a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in International Relations and minoring in French and English. The studies of English and Literature have been my passion for a long time. I enjoy reading about cultures while familiarizing myself with the world’s diverse peoples. In my first year of University, I took three English courses and an intensive Writing Seminar which helped me develop my ability of analyzing, interpreting and explaining complex English texts while improving my written and oral communication skills. One of my greatest joys is helping a student who is first afraid or confused about a subject to understand it to the ability of being a master of that subject. During my freshman year, I was involved in tutoring children in West Philadelphia. The students assigned to us were often of lower academic ability and I loved the challenge the opportunity offered to me. To improve their motivation, I applied different teaching methods including games, quizzes and debates. Seeing my students improve their listening skills, their grammar and their research skills was very gratifying and that inspired me to help others to develop and to achieve their maximum potential. I am very creative and enjoy devising methods that make learning interesting. We are not born masters of our craft, we toil until we are masters of our craft. I am dedicated to encouraging young students to push themselves and embrace the growth process in order to develop and achieve. Through tailored tutoring to meet each student’s specific requirements, coupled with my ability to work well with others, I believe my students will excel.

I am a PhD candidate in the field of environmental studies (Antioch University New England). Previously, I received a BA in psychology (George Fox University) and a Masters of Divinity (Princeton Theological Seminary). My varied disciplinary background makes me an ideal tutor in many fields, and I enjoy them all: the humanities, History, the Sciences, Math, politics, Social Sciences, religion, and care for the planet. One of my most useful skills is editing. I enjoy reading others' writing and helping create a finished product that shares the author's intended meaning clearly. I am an adjunct professor for undergraduates and masters students, so I know what college professors expect in a paper. I am also available to help you prepare for standardized tests, including the GED, SAT, and GRE.When I'm not involved in academic work, I enjoy being active: running, biking, hiking, and spending time outside. I like to garden, and eat healthy food I grew myself. I have young kids who keep me on the go, always challenging me to learn new things and explore the world in different ways.As your tutor, I hope to get to know you and your interests, your goals, and your passions, and to connect the subjects we work on to your particular goals and interests.

After many happy, productive years as a teacher (mostly in elementary school), I'm ready to step away from my classroom; however, helping students thrive, grow, and achieve is still an exciting challenge that I'd like to stay connected too.I started tutoring when I was in high school (working with younger children). This carried forward to college working for my campus's writing center, and continued into my career as a classroom teacher. I can help an elementary student with whatever subject they might need, and a middle school or high school student with literature or writing.

I specialize in reading and writing tutoring and test prep for students Kindergarten - college level. I have a MA in Global Studies from the University of California Berkeley, and a BA in Ethnicity, Race and Migration from Yale University. While in graduate school, I facilitated classroom discussions, which involved lesson planning, writing short response papers, and critiquing my classmates' responses. While working for a Professor at Yale Law School on my honors thesis, I learned key writing and editing strategies, such as reverse outlining. My professors have empowered me to approach writing with intention and clarity, and I bring this deep knowledge to my tutoring practice. My academic experience has given me the skills to help students on their homework, including longer term papers and thesis writing, and prepare students for the COMPASS Reading and Writing Comprehensions, ISEE, ACT and SAT reading and writing sections, and the GRE verbal section. My teaching methods are adaptable and tailored to the learning styles of each student. Some of my methods are learning games, practice problems, memorization, learning by example, and reverse teaching. In my tutoring practice, I value patience, creative learning, and short and long-term goal setting. With older students, I can offer support and guidance during the research, writing, and editing processes. If relevant, I will give students homework between sessions to practice vocabulary, increase understanding of certain concepts, and/or become familiar with test materials. The tutoring relationship is like a coaching relationship; I will give students the skills they need to be the best readers and writers possible, and I will ultimately help students take responsibility of their own learning. I look forward to connecting with you!

I graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Government and from Fordham University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. I have ten years of experience as a volunteer and private tutor to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. I have tutored a variety of subjects ranging from math and science to standardized testing, but I especially enjoy tutoring in the areas of English, literature, and writing.I believe in creating a specialized tutoring plan to address the particular needs of my student. My emphasis is on creative (and hopefully fun) learning techniques that engage my student and help him or her confront problem-solving in a way that best suits his or her learning style. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction, going to the movies, and spending time with my friends and family in the sunshine.

In France, I worked with native speakers to improve their English speaking and comprehension. Most recently, I worked with first generation college applicants to study for the SAT, take practice tests, and prepare college applications. I recently graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in Philosophy and French language. Tutoring students is one of the most rewarding activities in which I have ever participated. Passing on my passions for knowledge and success is something I try to accomplish with each person with whom I work. Every student deserves a tutor who will approach their needs in different and innovative ways. I accomplish this by getting to know my students as classroom entities as well as people. In this way, I can vary my teaching style to suit each student and stay open to adjusting as necessary. I am fluent in French, after spending a year in Paris during college. Because of this, I am well suited to working with students who are having difficulty with French comprehension and oral skills, at all levels. Teaching the SAT is one of my passions, as it is a mystery to many students but one of the largest gateways to success. Helping students with their English reading and writing, for AP tests and college essays, is a challenging but rewarding task. With the right student-tutor relationship, I believe anything can be accomplished.

I am a third-year undergraduate student at Bates College. I am studying economics, sociology, and french. In high school I completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, receiving a Bilingual Diploma (in French and English). Additionally, I was an IB Primary and Middle years program, student. My interest in tutoring began with sitting for bilingual families in Atlanta, GA with children who needed IB PYP homework help in English and french or Spanish. From there I expanded to tutoring in various middle and high school subjects. While my first academic love is languages, I tutor a variety of subjects including writing, social sciences, economics, IB curriculum, and college applications. I've found with IB students it's especially helpful that I've been through the entirety of the unique curriculum. I strongly believe knowledge is power. For instance, languages provide us more opportunities to understand and communicate with the world around us and STEM helps us to develop technology, medicine, and overall quality of life. I try to spread this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, yoga, hiking, volleyball, and dabbling in art.
