The seeds sown today are harvested the next season. Attempting to satisfy instant gratification only results in under ripe and immature fruit. This is my life motto and has served me well. I have taught many different age groups during my past years in high school. I used to be a teacher assistant at Sunday School, I tutored middle school students in English and Math, and I assisted other high school students study for standardized tests at my local test prep school. During my many experiences teaching and tutoring children and students younger than me, I have found that many of them still try to achieve instant gratification through their studies, although that is simply not possible. I aim to avoid teaching "plug-n-chug" methods to solve problems, but help my students understand the underlying concepts so that they can become more versatile and proficient in that subject. This is much more time-consuming and difficult on both the tutor and the student, but it is likewise much more rewarding and lasting.

I am a graduate of Hofstra University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood/ Childhood Education and Psychology as well as a Master of Science in Education in Literacy Studies. I am a certified Early Childhood and Elementary Teacher and Reading Teacher in New York State (ages birth to sixth grade). Previously, I worked as a co-teacher at a private preschool in Manhattan. Currently, I am a PreKindergarten teacher on Long Island where I have my very own classroom. If one were to step into my classroom, you would see lots of positivity. I believe the key to a successful education is the connection between teachers and students. There must be a sense of rapport established in order for one to truly involve themselves in their learning journey. Although I am certified in all elementary subjects, I am most passionate about reading and writing. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, traveling, and reading on the beach.

I'm Asami. I am a second year graduate student at Central Connecticut State University in TESOL program. I graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Japan in 2015 with a BA in Polish studies. Learning English and Polish made me realize how fun it is to be able to communicate with people from other countries. I have more than 4 years teaching/tutoring experience of English (to Japanese students), and 2 years tutoring experience of Japanese. As a native speaker of Japanese who was born and raised in Japan, I can teach both the language and the culture.Through my learning experience as a TESOL student, I learned a lot about teaching English. Since I learned English as my second language, I know what is difficult to non-native speakers of English well.I chose my undergrad major (Polish studies) because I love Chopin. I've been playing the piano since I was 4 years old, and received several awards at competitions including Silver Award for elementary school grade 3 at the 4th International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA.I always respond within one day. Feel free to contact me anytime for any questions!

I am currently an undergraduate student at ASU. I am pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry as well as a secondary education certificate. Initially, when I signed up for college classes I had the intention of becoming a doctor. Specifically, I wanted to be an endocrinologist so that one day I could care for patients under circumstances similar to my mother who suffers from an auto-immune disease. I have always been interested in science especially when it could be applied to the mechanics of the human body. Over a year ago I was presented with the opportunity to work as a chemistry tutor at Glendale Community College's main campus. I didn't hesitate to take the offer because I loved chemistry and I was excited to help other students with the topic. Working as a tutor has been life-changing. Not only do I develop a better understanding of the material myself, but it didn't take me long to discover that I was passionate about teaching.

I am passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects and how they relate to the real world and everyday life. I have taught several Varsity Tutor virtual school day camps (Hands-On Home Science Lab and Super Cool Structures classes) to groups both large and small. The classes I taught had several, hands-on fun projects including the science behind them (Newton's law of forces and motion, mechanical engineering, earth science, structural engineering, and some chemistry).I have a bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buffalo. I have worked for over 19 years as an engineer for a small manufacture of industrial equipment (pumps, heaters, condensers) for the Oil and Gas industries.I welcome any new STEM teaching and tutoring opportunities. Thanks!

Through my professional experience as a Special Education middle school teacher, I have developed a unique toolkit of strategies to support students in mastering new and challenging skills. Central to my philosophy as an educator is the fact that all students are unique. These differences are not synamous with disadvantages. Different learning styles or varied personal interests are things to celebrate.By immediately identifying and leveraging an individual's strengths, I have helped students successfully overcome their weaknesses. With diverse strategies such as the use of mathematical models, pre-writing graphic organizers, and mnemonic self-monitoring reading strategies, my students have developed the ability to successfully demonstrate their knowledge.Through the use of formal and informal data collection, I am able to evaluate my successes and failures. Just as I say to my students, "failure is not final". Using my data, I am able to model resilience to my students by adapting my approach to best meet the individual needs of the student. In addition to my aforementioned pedagogical toolkit, I am a passionate learner. WIth my varied educational, professional, and personal experiences, I am able to tutor in a variety of content areas. Through my graduate education and experience as a teacher, I have expertise in teaching basic literacy through advanced algebraic math. My undergraduate experiences in Anthropology prepare me to support learners in writing organized, concise, and well-researched essays. Finally, my patience and love of learning equip me with the necessary characteristics to excel as a Varsity tutor.

I am a freshman, studying at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I love working with students because I want to help them grow, and I grow from them as well. I have tutored students before in elementary and middle school math. I believe that seeking help when needed is very important as one should be able to fully grasp concepts. In my free time, I like to travel. Additionally, I play the violin and like to spend time with family and friends.
