I have taught many different age groups during my past years in high school. I used to be a teacher assistant at Sunday School, I tutored middle school students in English and Math, and I assisted other high school students study for standardized tests at my local test prep school. During my many experiences teaching and tutoring children and students younger than me, I have found that many of them still try to achieve instant gratification through their studies, although that is simply not possible. I aim to avoid teaching "plug-n-chug" methods to solve problems, but help my students understand the underlying concepts so that they can become more versatile and proficient in that subject. This is much more time-consuming and difficult on both the tutor and the student, but it is likewise much more rewarding and lasting.

I am currently a student at New York University. I am studying to receive dual Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Japan in 2015 with a BA in Polish studies. Learning English and Polish made me realize how fun it is to be able to communicate with people from other countries. I have more than 4 years teaching/tutoring experience of English (to Japanese students), and 2 years tutoring experience of Japanese.As a native speaker of Japanese who was born and raised in Japan, I can teach both the language and the culture.Through my learning experience as a TESOL student, I learned a lot about teaching English. Since I learned English as my second language, I know what is difficult to non-native speakers of English well.I chose my undergrad major (Polish studies) because I love Chopin. I am currently an undergraduate student at ASU. I am pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry as well as a secondary education certificate. Initially, when I signed up for college classes I had the intention of becoming a doctor. Specifically, I wanted to be an endocrinologist so that one day I could care for patients under circumstances similar to my mother who suffers from an auto-immune disease. I have always been interested in science especially when it could be applied to the mechanics of the human body. Over a year ago I was presented with the opportunity to work as a chemistry tutor at Glendale Community College's main campus. I didn't hesitate to take the offer because I loved chemistry and I was excited to help other students with the topic. Working as a tutor has been life-changing. Not only do I develop a better understanding of the material myself, but it didn't take me long to discover that I was passionate about teaching.

I am passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects and how they relate to the real world and everyday life. I have taught several Varsity Tutor virtual school day camps (Hands-On Home Science Lab and Super Cool Structures classes) to groups both large and small.The classes I taught had several, hands-on fun projects including the science behind them (Newton's law of forces and motion, mechanical engineering, earth science, structural engineering, and some chemistry).I have a bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buffalo. I have worked for over 19 years as an engineer for a small manufacture of industrial equipment (pumps, heaters, condensers) for the Oil and Gas industries.I welcome any new STEM teaching and tutoring opportunities.
