I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography and Earth Sciences with a Geology emphasis at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, VA. While at ODU, I enjoyed helping students with tutoring the sciences (Physics, Geology, and Oceanography) and history (American, 20th Century) as I have a passion in these subjects; and since ODU have continued to help high school and college students in science and history. Following graduation, I have been serving my country as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy living in Japan, California, and Washington State. I have gained experiences as a leader working with very respectful people from nations across the globe while in sometimes challenging environments, I am truly honored and blessed. I mostly intrinsically enjoyed helping others succeed in their training as the Navy has an extensive, comprehensive training program. However, I still have a prodigious adoration to applied geology and will be transitioning out of the Navy, attend graduate school for research in geology and ultimately become a professional geologist. I occasionally volunteer my time to tutor high school and college students in broad subjects, but as mentioned I'm most passionate in the sciences and history, and seeing my students succeed in understanding the subjects they request tutoring is my biggest desire while tutoring. When I first meet with students I attempt to identify their baseline knowledge of the subject they are having trouble with and explain to them I am fully invested in ensuring they can understand the subject on their own with my guidance. My research interests include literacy, the relationship between cognition and language, and the history of language. My other interests include public speaking and volunteering. My goal is to become a Ph.D. researcher after I obtain my Certificate of Clinical Competence as a speech therapist. I tutor a wide variety of ages in a range of subjects, including but not limited to test preparation, latin, philosophy, and writing. I try to incorporate research-based techniques and methods into my tutoring whenever possible.

My passion for literature brought me to New York--specifically to the New York publishing world, where I worked as an assistant to a literary agent for two years. It's probably become clear at this point that the subject I am most passionate about is writing. In college, I worked as a consultant at my school's Writing Resources Center, assisting students with their academic papers. In this position, I helped our clients improve the overall structure of their papers, strengthen their research, cite their sources, and correct their spelling and mechanics. I feel confident that I can address any paper problems you might have and make the writing process less intimidating.Aside from academic papers, I also write comedy sketches and spend most of my free time improvising and creating webseries with friends. Performing as a comedian may not seem connected to my educational philosophy, but I think many of the skills you learn as an improviser translate well to test taking. Staying calm under pressure and adjusting your strategy to meet new challenges are important whether you're onstage or in SAT prep mode!

I believe that whether someone cooks, fixes cars, listens to their friends, hangs out or any of the other billions of activities, they are expressing themselves-and that is art.When I teach-I ask questions because I be people are capable of discovering the answers. No two people learn the same way. Some people need to see it, some need to hear it, some need to just dive in and explore, some need to move around; most are some of each. I want people to do well. The first session will always contain a fair amount of getting acquainted and I promise to do my share of listening.
