I am a 2023 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Finance/Economics major and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I am a passionate student in the math and business realms, as I enjoy the intuitiveness of the former and the real-world potential of the latter. During classes in middle and high school, I developed a reputation of being a good source of help within my classes in a non-tutor capacity, and grew that into a peer tutor role a couple times a week during lunch my senior year of high school. What I hope to accomplish with my tutoring is ensure that you not only achieve your desired grade/score, but see how the different concepts relate to each other in the bigger picture. The more important part is to critically think about the subject matter in other, more unfamiliar contexts. Also, in my math subjects, I seek to provide personal secrets in realms including quicker computation strategies, unique acronyms for certain rules, and other intuitive shortcuts.

My approach to teaching and tutoring centers around my background as a liberal arts student turned pre-med. I attended Wesleyan University and then decided after college to pursue medicine, completing a one year post-baccalaureate premedical program at Bryn Mawr College. Having personally undergone the transition from a humanities to a science student, I feel passionately that the sciences can be learned by any student, even those for whom it might feel a little more challenging. Working as a tutor for biology, organic chemistry, general chemistry, and neuroscience, I actively implemented this philosophy, finding creative ways to approach complex concepts. For example, I might steer a writing student studying organic chemistry to explain a reaction as a narrative of molecular interactions, rather than beginning with a complex problem.In the context of shifting careers, I have also taken a number of standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and MCAT. My approach with these tests emphasizes strategy over content; a particular vocabulary word may or may not appear on the actual test, but knowledge of how to approach a passage and its correlated questions will help regardless of content.

Eager and enthusiastic, I have lots to give, lots to teach, and lots to bring to a student. I believe that comprehensive tutoring, working towards full understanding in the material and practice is key.A little about me...I am a college student at the University of Illinois at Chicago double majoring in biology and political science. As someone who went to large high school, I understand that it falling behind and dropping from where you want to be can happen in an instant. After graduating, I served as an Augustinian Volunteer for a year in Chulucanas, Peru, where I worked as a computer teacher at a technical institute called CETPRO Betania. I have previously tutored a broad range of subjects and age groups, and I have especially enjoyed working with students to develop their writing skills. Hi! My name is Evan, I graduated from Allegheny College in May 2015 with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Psychology, and after graduation I moved to Pittsburgh to begin my career. Besides tutoring for Varsity Tutors, I work as a Laboratory Technician 2 for PPG in Springdale, PA. My laboratory uses fundamental aspects of chemistry to run testing on electrocoat paints in order to determine their respective viabilities as manufacturing products. I love what I do! I currently work 40 hours a week in my Lab Technician position, but would be available after 6 pm as well as weekends (when scheduled in advance).I have worked as a Biology tutor for both the AP Biology Test as well as the SAT Subject Test for Biology for the last two summers through Maine Prep, one of Maine's premier test-preparation companies. At Maine Prep I learned about what it takes to be a successful tutor, and I also learned about the satisfaction that one can gain from helping students understand previously unknown concepts. Now that I'm in the Pittsburgh area I would love to continue expanding on my tutoring experience- I enjoy working with students and someday I would like to be a Professor in Biology!

I recently graduated summa cum laud from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy. While there I tutored philosophy, political science, and religious studies students for two years. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Philosophy at Georgia State University, where I serve as a teaching assistant and writing consultant. I currently tutor in the areas of test preparation, government, philosophy, and religious studies. My passion for education stems from the joy I find in helping students achieve their goals. My teaching style involves asking lots of strategic questions to help students discover answers for themselves, a process which my students typically find quite empowering. Still, I recognize that each student has unique needs, questions, and learning styles, so I strive to listen first and then craft individualized plans to meet each student's particular objectives. In my spare time I like to get outside hiking, playing soccer, or volunteering at my church's community garden. I also enjoy reading, watching football, and cooking.

I'm interested in biology, biochemistry, and the development of new drugs for disease, particularly blood cancers. I have years of academic and research experience in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and organic chemistry.
