English Tutor • +7 Subjects

I am a rising senior at Wellesley College majoring in Music and American Studies. During my first year at college, I started tutoring students in grades K-12 at the Mathnasium center in Wellesley, MA. The following two years, I tutored my peers taking courses in American Popular Music, Jazz Music Theory, and Jazz History. Over the past two years, I've developed a passion for helping students pursue writing and research topics that reflect their identities and personal histories. By framing education as a lens through which to perceive themselves, students have been infinitely more engaged. I'm most passionate in tutoring topics related to music history, but interestedly, I've come to deeply appreciate and value writing, research, and analysis skills. Outside of the classroom, I play alto saxophone in a couple of jazz groups, read graphic novels, bake, knit/crochet, and am learning to skate on a longboard!

Anatomy Tutor • +8 Subjects

I am a graduate of the University of Kentucky and received my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education-Science. Following college, I completed my medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed pediatrics residency training at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. I tutored large groups while in medical school in pathology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, and pharmacology. I have also spent time in small groups and one on one tutoring sessions for a variety of subjects in science. I am available to tutor biology, chemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and anatomy and physiology. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology and microbiology because of the understanding required at a cellular level. I believe all students have the ability to excel and reach their individual goals in any subject and my philosophy lies in creating a context for understanding for the student. Science is fun and changing the framework in how a student looks at science can make all the difference.

My greatest strength as a teacher is my own passion for learning. This love for knowledge has lead me to appreciate the art of teaching and helping others grow in their own learning journey.I am a high school English teacher with experience teaching in person and online. This experience has taught me how to be flexible and try new methods to help my students reach their learning goals.I am a double graduate from Villanova University. Go Cats! While there I earned a Bachelor or Arts in English and Sociology. I also attended graduate school there for a Masters in Education.I teach all English related subjects. My favorite subject to teach is Research Writing! This is my favorite because you can learn so much about interesting topics while developing critical thinking, analytical, and deductive reasoning skills. My teaching philosophy is that the purpose of education is to guide students in developing skills because it is important that all students are able to not only learn valuable skills they need in that moment but also learn how to teach themselves independently.

Algebra Tutor • +46 Subjects

I earned my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, then worked in the computer database software industry as a pre-sales engineer, consultant, trainer, and quality assurance engineer. Consulting in several industries gave me broad exposure to real-world problems and a work ethic that may serve as a role model. I learned to listen to problems and come up with creative and practical solutions. As a trainer and pre-sales engineer, I co-wrote a tutorial, created class materials, and made many technical presentations about "leading edge" software, and so became skilled at explaining complex concepts. My work in QA reinforced my obsession with quality and gave me a good eye for seeing and diagnosing errors, which applies to student errors and misunderstandings.I have tutored on and off since my college days, in math, science and ESL. I approach tutoring with a positive attitude, a good ear for listening, patience, respect, and humor. I have a bias toward deep understanding rather than rote memorization.

Teaching is more than cramming loads of data into a student's mind. Teaching is the art of training a student's mind to think and never end the thirst for knowledge.I completed my BA Degree in History at Syracuse University and my JD Degree, cum laude, at The Delaware Law School of Widener University of Pennsylvania. I was the Research Editor of the Law Review and graduated 7th in a class of 267.I have over 15 years of experience as a college instructor and over 30 years of experience, tutoring and mentoring students, and young attorneys.I tutor students in American History, World History, Constitutional Law, Civics, The Government and Politics. My students range from Middle School to College and Graduate School and includes those students enrolled in AP Courses and Honors Classes. I also tutor students who are taking the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or LSAT.My favorite subject to tutor is History, as I bring the course alive for the student, show the student it's relevance in today's world and help the student to prepare for multiple choice, true and false, fill-in-the-blanks, and essay test questions. My tutoring style is to listen to the student and understand what he/she needs to succeed in a particular course. I work hand-in-hand with student to assist the student in achieving his/her goals.Outside of academia, I enjoy watching and participating in sports and trivia contests. I like to consider myself a fairly quantitative person. My inquisitive nature led me to studying Mathematics at Baruch College, where I've taken a myriad of courses in both pure and applied math. Understanding the importance of education, I've always been fascinated by teachers and the impact they're able to have on students both in and out of the classroom. Hence, this led me to tutoring students myself, which I have been doing since high school. Most of my experience tutoring lays in mathematics, as that's what I consider myself to be most passionate about. I like to cater my teaching style towards the needs of the student, meaning I approach each session with a flexible mindset, as every student has different goals. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, swimming, and studying/playing chess.

It is such a shame that others don't find enjoyment in so many things, because they're written off as "too difficult", when in reality, they're not so bad. The reason I became a tutor is to help those people who think they'll be bad at things, just because they think it will be hard.I really want to help people learn and understand what is going on in their classes and lessons, so that they can experience what something better. These subjects can be great if you have someone willing to sit down, one-on-one, and really work with you to find that block or show you how to study. Sometimes, it's something as simple as having it explained in a simpler way. Simply learning how to wade through a professors jargon can do wonders for a student. In the end, the goal of my tutoring is to provide outstanding service, but most importantly, I want students to leave my lessons feeling excited and encouraged to learn more, willing to push themselves harder. I want people to learn how they can do better just by believing in themselves a little bit more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Honors Geometry moves at a faster pace and explores concepts at greater depth, requiring stronger foundational algebra skills and more advanced problem-solving. While both courses cover similar topics—angles, triangles, circles, proofs, and coordinate geometry—Honors Geometry typically includes more complex multi-step problems, rigorous logical reasoning, and connections to advanced mathematics like trigonometry and calculus. Students are expected to not just apply formulas, but understand the underlying principles and explain their reasoning clearly.

Proofs require a fundamental shift from procedural math to logical reasoning and abstract thinking. Students must learn to justify each step using theorems, definitions, and postulates—which feels completely different from solving equations. Many students also struggle to see which properties apply to a given figure or how to work backwards from what they need to prove. Personalized tutoring helps students build confidence by working through the logic step-by-step, teaching them to identify patterns in proof strategies, and showing how each type of proof (two-column, paragraph, flowchart) is really just a different way of telling the same logical story.

Word problems require translating language into diagrams and mathematical relationships—a skill that takes deliberate practice. Strong students break problems into smaller pieces: identify what you know, sketch the situation, label key measurements, decide which theorems or formulas apply, and check if the answer makes sense. Tutors help by walking through this systematic approach repeatedly, building your pattern recognition so you start to see which strategies work for different problem types. Once you've tackled 5-10 similar problems with guidance, the thought process becomes automatic.

Look for tutors who understand both the procedural and conceptual sides of geometry—they should be able to explain not just how to solve a problem, but why the approach works. Strong tutors ask questions that help you think through problems rather than just showing you the answer. They should be comfortable with your textbook's specific curriculum and approach, familiar with common student misconceptions, and able to break down complex ideas into clear steps. Most importantly, they should help you build confidence and see geometry as a connected system of ideas rather than isolated formulas and rules.

This depends on where you're starting and how often you meet with a tutor. Students often see noticeable improvement in 4-6 weeks of consistent weekly sessions, especially if they're reviewing material between meetings. For more significant gains—like moving from struggling with proofs to confidently writing them—plan on 2-3 months of regular work. The key is frequency and consistency: meeting weekly with focused practice tends to work better than sporadic cramming sessions. Many students continue tutoring throughout the year because geometry builds cumulatively, and staying on top of new concepts prevents gaps from widening.

Many students feel anxious about geometry because it requires a different type of thinking than algebra, and struggling early on can shake confidence. One-on-one instruction removes the pressure of classrooms where you might hesitate to ask questions, and tutors work at your pace. As you work through problems successfully with guidance and start to see patterns and connections, anxiety naturally decreases. Tutors also help you develop a growth mindset by showing that struggling with proofs or visualizing 3D shapes is normal—it's about building skills, not innate ability. Regular small wins compound into genuine confidence.

Early topics like angle relationships, triangle properties, and congruence form the foundation for everything else—proofs, similarity, circles, and coordinate geometry all rely on these concepts. If you're behind, focus first on solidifying those basics rather than rushing to catch up on later material. Once your tutor confirms you understand triangle congruence, similarity criteria (SSS, SAS, AA), and basic proof strategies, you'll find harder topics much more manageable. Many students find that catching up on one foundational topic can make the next 3-4 topics click into place.
