Tutoring review by Maroun in Mount Holly, NC
Today, our focus was to prep the student for his upcoming test on Chapter 7 this Friday. For the test review, we worked through a worksheet (provided by the teacher) consisting of 4 different proofs focusing on similarities of polygons. We then went over each problem (about 26 of them) in the chapter review section of the textbook. I had him focus on two main areas: recognizing the proportional sides of polygons (mainly triangles), and setting up the ratios properly in order to solve the given problem. We finished by doing the chapter test section of the textbook which had about 18 or so questions. Again, I was pleased with his effort and attitude during this session. I ask him about the steps he took in order to ensure the understanding of the subject and so that he can work through it and use learned material. He definitely knows what was covered in previous sections, including sections prior to me tutoring him, and is able to go back to find the right theorem or postulate. I was also very pleased with how well he did on the chapter test. I told him "good job today," and encouraged him to do well on this exam. I also told him that "I believe he can get an A" as he seems to know and understand it. He felt the same. He even asked me for guidance on what to study; and of course, I was happy that he initiated this topic and told him to focus on ratios and proportional sides of polygons.

We covered the following topics: 1). Lesson 16.3, Sector Area: We reviewed the homework assignment of 24 problems provided by the school teacher. He was pretty good at using the formula to find the area of a sector in a circle with given information. 2). Lesson 16.2, Arc Length and Radian Measure: We reviewed the homework assignment of 22 problems provided by the school teacher. He was pretty good at using the formula of finding the arc length of a sector in a circle with given information. He is still waiting on to get the result of the test he took last week, but in general he has a good feeling about the result of the test.

Tutoring review by Vincent in Mount Holly, NC
Today, the student had an assignment over the different methods used to solve quadratic equations. He was comfortable with the quadratic formula. I showed him the steps for each one and then had him use each one on a practice problem. He became more comfortable with factoring, square root and graphing, so we focused more with completing the square. I encouraged him to keep practicing completing the square after he completed the assignment, and to use another method to check his work.

The student and I worked on naming line segments and angles (material that is being covered in her class). By the end of the session and after completing plenty of practice problems, she had a good understanding of how to approach these concepts.

The student and I covered rational vs irrational numbers. We converted numbers back and forth between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and then solved a string of calculations using the PEMDAS order of operations. He had a good attitude and was able to tell me when I hadn't explained something fully enough.
