The student has an AP Calculus final exam tomorrow so we went over her packets. We discussed analyzing graphs, Rolle's theorem, and the mean value theorem. She is sitting at an 88%, a long way from the C she had during our first session. I am confident she will end this semester with an A.

We worked on volume and surface area word problems of various sizes. We discussed how to draw the solids. We discussed where the formulas for various solid volumes come from.

We covered graphing sin and cos functions. The student is already pretty strong with this material. We just made sure she was really comfortable with it so that she is prepared for the next step, which is csc and sec functions. They have notes from that already, but they have not been given an assignment. She is a strong math student and is eager to learn and understand. She asks good questions.

We reviewed the student's school work from the previous week. She had lost points on her interim grade due to failing to show her work. We discussed this and how it is important to show her work. I talked to her mom about this possibly indicating that the work is not challenging enough for her - since she is creating an extra challenge by doing it in her head. Mom will discuss this with the student's math teacher. After reviewing her work we practiced addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using several math apps.

Tonight the student had a few questions on probability because she has a test tomorrow and she also wanted me to show her how to use MLA formatting which I gladly assisted her with. She seems to be doing well in the class compared to her classmates.

Today, we covered converting between polar coordinates, rectangular coordinates, and complex numbers. By the end of the session, we had covered a full method for each of the problems on the student's worksheet. With some review and further practice problems, he should be able to do well on this part of his coming test.
