The student continues to improve quickly. She has a test on chapter 8 (Logarithms and exponential equations) on Monday morning. We went through all of chapter 8, as well as her quizzes and homework assignments, and reviewed all the major concepts. The student stated that she feels good about the test tomorrow and has done much better on her homework the last 2 weeks.

In this session, we worked on calculating surface area of prisms. All of the problems required breaking down the problem into finding the areas of the bases and the lateral surface areas. The student did a great job on these problems. She is aware of when to use an equation backwards to find a property of the prism. She is also aware of how to use the equations to solve for any of the geometric properties of the prisms.

The student is retaking a test tomorrow. She has been practice a lot with her teacher, and it appears that the student has a much better understanding of the concept than what she did three weeks ago. Tonight, we worked over problems that the student was still unsure about, which mostly included angles inscribed and outside of circles. I just directed her with hints about what information the problem gave her and how to use it. She did much better when she saw the hint. She was able to do the rest of the problems with ease. We also went over scale factors and translations with circles. I showed her how to use algebra to solve for the translation vector. She likes this way better since she is challenged with counting the small lines on the coordinate plane. Also, she originally was putting her scale factors backwards. I gave her an explanation why that is and how to fix it. Hopefully, she will do better on her retake, which will bring her grade up .

Today we previewed Section 6.1: Riemann Sums. I showed the student the Left Hand Rule, Right Hand Rule, Midpoint Rule, and Trapezoid Rule. He did fairly well on these. Then we talked about integrals and some common properties of integrals. He got the hang of this. This chapter is less conceptually challenging than the previous chapters.
