About Revere

The city of Revere, Massachusetts, was originally known as North Chelsea, and was first settled in 1630. In 1871, the city changed its name to honor legendary American Revolutionary War veteran Paul Revere, who died in 1818. The region was also the site of the Revolutionary War's first naval battle.

Revere School District administers the city's public schools, and it contains two high schools. Revere High is one of these secondary institutions, and US News gives it a silver medal for its great academic programs. If you are interested in private test prep instruction, Revere tutoring is a great solution. It is available either online or in-home.

We reviewed graphing polynomial functions as well as finding out a function based on given parameters. We also reviewed older topics, such as logarithms and trig functions as the student's tests always contain content from purely older chapters.

We covered some statistics and more algebra. We spent a bit of time on quadratic equations - factoring, how changing the different parts of the equation affect the graph, combining like terms, comparing quadratic and linear equations. We also discussed functions - what is a function, breaking down the parts of a function (input, output). The student is assigned a practice to complete for our next session. I feel confident that the student will do well on her exam. She has a lot of knowledge that we just need to piece together in some instances and the student is diligently trying to do so. Today, I explained an answer to her and she asked "but how do we know that?" She is not afraid to ask questions and doesn't want to just skim the surface. I greatly enjoy working with the student and know her good work ethic and hard work will take her far.

Tutoring review by Monica in Revere, MA
Student A was working on fraction addition/ subtraction/ multiplication/ division. This required the knowledge of LCD and conversion from mixed fractions to improper fractions. She had a pretty good grasp on all the concept required to solve the questions, but struggled a bit with the actual numbers. She makes lots of simple arithmetic errors. We will work more on this next time. Student O had homework to complete on converting written phrases into mathematical expressions. He struggled with this quite a bit, as if seemed very foreign. Next time we will go over breaking down the words into their equivalent mathematical meaning.

We reviewed for the student's midterm and I left him with a few practice problems. He needs to review the basics so that they stay fresh in his mind and he does not make little mistakes in his work that cause major errors later on.

During this session, we went over mostly Math. Most of the questions revolved around solving for x using the completing the square method. Overall, this session went well. We also looked at a chemistry cooling curve question. The student was initially confused as to when to use which equation, but he understood after I explained it.

The student and I went over 5 essay drafts today. One for the college essays did not need much work, as it was one of many drafts that she also was doing for her English class. The other 4 were 1st drafts, so we went over them and agreed on a what would be due at our next meeting.
