I am a graduate of Laguna College of Art and Design (formerly Art Institute of Southern California). I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Illustration in 1996. The early 90's was the wild west of desktop publishing, and we as students were literally discovering the power of applications like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, side-by-side, with our instructors. Each day, we were learning from them. And they were learning from us. This is a philosophy I have always applied in my career... you are never too seasoned, or too experienced, to learn something new. After graduation, I accepted an opportunity with my employer to join a team in our Central California HQ, working to design and test the UI for a replacement Point-of-Sale system. This allowed me to eventually segue into a permanent role traveling across the country, supporting the hardware and software roll-out, and training our associates on the new system. This is when I developed my passion for travel. In 1999, I "went online" for the first time, and discovered that the same design applications I'd studied in art school were now the graphic building blocks of the Internet. I was immediately hooked. Within a couple of weeks, I was building my first website, "Next Stop, Aptos Station!", showcasing my love of railroading history.Over the next couple of years, I honed my skills in HTML and JavaScript. Those two programming languages, and eventually CSS, would serve me for the next 10 years of my career as a Web Designer and Developer. And eventually opened the door to more than a decade as a Salesforce.com Administrator. In 2018, I was able to shift gears and start traveling the U.S. with my wife and dog, in our camper van. I continue to work as a Salesforce Administrator, as a remote worker, from where ever we happen to be this month. I continue to enjoy my two aquatic passions, surfing and bodysurfing, and also manage to hit a few skateboard parks along the way.Through hard work, and smart choices, I have been blessed with a range of career opportunities, and life experiences, and I hope to impart this to my students.

It is my goal to find it and capitalize, creating a learning experience, and environment that creates this value.Working professionals deserve the opportunity to receive accredited degrees that contribute to their business skills, career, and academic advancement. Modern educational institutions should deliver that service.Class participants have a right to learn and should feel that they received value for their efforts and fees. They should be encouraged to accept the goal and vision of achieving academic and life success. Course expectations, tasks, and objectives should be clearly defined, communicated, and further explained if necessary. If you need that extra push, I am here to help.

I am a graduate from Lone Star College and later WGU, from which I received a Bachelor's in IT Management. While I originally thought my career would be in IT, I spent much of the following months doing work for Lone Star's disabilities office for students, and later tutoring work. Teaching is something I have a passion for but was encouraged away from initially, so it's been very exciting to be able to tutor on a larger scale like this. I believe teaching is about growing an understanding of subjects and sharpening one's intellect and critical thinking, not just memorization, and I also believe that everyone has a different learning style, and so teaching one-on-one needs to be specialized and flexible. While I can confidently tutor most subjects outside of math, I particularly enjoy English and writing subjects due to the amazing things one can do with words, and I also love History and Science subjects, purely for how fascinating they are. In my spare time I involve myself a lot with computers and coding, as well as plants and cooking, but when I need to calm down nothing beats reading a book with my cat.

I've taught both non-major and major specific Intro College Chemistry labs and offered tutoring for both. I love learning and have always done so from a very young age.The most important thing I would like you all to know is that I am very much like you. A human with goals and dreams, just trying to take the steps to make it happen. My wish is to dispel any fears and to comfort eager learners whose hearts have been worn down by traditional teaching methods.Sometimes the world moves too fast, and many of us feel left behind, or cast aside. That's where I come in. I hope to be the person that can guide you at your own pace to academic success while rebuilding a healthier relationship with learning.

I am an easy going tutor and have a light and "fluffy" approach to instruction. I remember the stress and anxiety of being in the classroom, so it is important for me to create an environment that the student will feel safe in. I graduated with a degree in Art, focusing on art history, and a degree in Arts and Technology, focusing on video game design and story telling. I worked in the mechanical engineering, video game, and education technology fields while working on technology such as 3D printing, virtual reality, and interactive educational software. For the last 8 years I helped students complete homework and prepare for tests so they could move to the next grade level or graduate high school. I also led a team to see how we could integrate virtual and augmented reality into the classroom for a more immersive and distraction free environment while helping students with learning disabilities and anxiety.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across a wide range of technical certifications, including CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+; Cisco CCNA and routing certifications; Microsoft Azure and cloud certifications; AWS solutions architect and developer certifications; and many others. Whether you're pursuing IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud computing, or specialized tech credentials, tutors can provide personalized instruction tailored to your certification exam and career goals. The right tutor match depends on your specific certification path and current skill level.
Absolutely. Many students start from foundational knowledge and build toward certification readiness with personalized instruction. Tutors can assess your starting point and create a learning path that covers prerequisite concepts before diving into certification-specific material. This foundational approach is especially helpful for career changers or students new to IT—personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows you to move at your own pace and ask questions without the pressure of a classroom setting, which often accelerates progress for beginners.
Tutors provide targeted exam preparation by focusing on the specific domains and competencies tested, identifying knowledge gaps through practice questions and mock exams, and reinforcing difficult concepts through personalized explanation. Rather than generic study strategies, personalized instruction zeroes in on where you struggle most—whether that's hands-on lab scenarios, multiple-choice question strategies, or specific technical topics. Many students find that this focused approach helps them pass on their first attempt or significantly improve their scores.
Yes. Many technical certifications require hands-on lab experience and practical skills, not just theoretical knowledge. Tutors can guide you through network setups, cloud platform configurations, security implementations, and other lab-based learning. They can help you troubleshoot issues, explain why certain configurations work, and ensure you understand the concepts behind the hands-on tasks—bridging the gap between doing something and truly understanding how it works.
Preparation timelines vary significantly based on your starting knowledge, the certification level, and how much you study. Entry-level certifications like CompTIA A+ typically require 100-150 hours of study, while more advanced certifications like AWS Solutions Architect can require 200+ hours. Personalized tutoring can help you study more efficiently by focusing on your specific weak areas rather than reviewing material you've already mastered, potentially reducing overall preparation time and improving retention.
Technical certifications are widely recognized credentials that validate your skills to employers and can lead to better job opportunities, higher salaries, and career advancement in IT and tech fields. Certifications like CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, and AWS are particularly valued by employers seeking candidates with verified, up-to-date technical knowledge. Personalized tutoring helps you not only pass the exam but truly master the material, so you're prepared to apply those skills confidently on the job.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is tailored specifically to you—tutors adapt to your learning style, pace, and knowledge gaps in real time. Unlike self-paced courses, you can ask questions immediately and get explanations customized to your background. Unlike group learning, you're never left behind or held back; the entire session focuses on what you need. This targeted approach often leads to deeper understanding and faster progress than studying alone or following a generic curriculum designed for everyone.
