Oxford German 4 Tutoring FAQ
Unlike many other modern European languages that are taught in high school and college foreign language courses, German presents a particular set of challenges. German education requires you to work through a complex vocabulary, whose cognates are more distant from English than those found in languages like French and Spanish. Likewise, while grammar can be difficult in any foreign language, in German this is particularly the case given its complex inflections and clause structures. Now that you are in your fourth year of studies, all of these aspects have come together in a very difficult mixture of speech, reading, and translation. Rather than struggle through the many difficulties of this intense course, contact Varsity Tutors today to learn about the German 4 tutoring options available near you.
Varsity Tutors has educational directors on hand who can help you connect with a German 4 tutor. You receive a full student profile that allows potential tutors to view your specific needs. You can list your past courses, experiences, past scores, your learning personality, upcoming testing dates, concerns, strengths, and more on your profile. These details allow your tutor to help you focus on where you need to improve. In addition, you can list if you are seeking to have in-person tutoring sessions or face-to-face online ones.
A personal language tutor can be particularly helpful in a course like German 4, given the number of topics that are frequently addressed in any given assignment. Your tutor can help you to evaluate the specific issues that are causing you difficulties in your conversations and translations, assessing your current learning in light of the topics that you have covered in past years. By focusing in this way on the many grammatical topics that you have already learned and the relationship of these topics to your current studies, your tutor can help you to address any remedial needs that you might have in order to make your current work as easy as possible. It is no small matter to read authentic literature in a foreign language and, given the specific difficulties of reading and analyzing German literature, personal German 4 tutoring may be the best way to help you surmount these difficulties as quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Your instructor may provide personalized learning materials to help you achieve your goals. You might be told to watch German shows, listen to their music, view artwork, read literature, or otherwise immerse yourself in the culture. In addition, your tutor can serve as the perfect conversation partner. He or she can provide instant feedback on your grammar, pronunciation, and more to make sure that you aren't forming bad habits.
Whether you merely want to do well in your particular course, are looking forward to AP studies, or are perhaps going to study German history, language, or literature in studies abroad, your current success in this rigorous course can be greatly helped by the personalized attention afforded by a language tutor. Tutors are selected both for their subject mastery as well as their ability to teach complex topics, like many of the grammatical and linguistic subjects that are covered in German 4. When learning a language, personalized assistance that is attentive to your particular strengths and weaknesses is particularly helpful. Language is learned incrementally and your tutor can help you to make the adjustments needed to gain fluency in German, mastering the translations and conversations that face you in this year of studies.
Personal German 4 tutoring can help you prepare yourself for future German studies by helping you gain a good command of the grammatical, conversational, and literary skills that are presented in your German 4 class. Contact Varsity Tutors today to discuss the German 4 tutoring options available near you!

Recent Oxford German 4 Tutoring Session Notes
The student and I spent most of this time working on his paragraph for Mandarin. The topic was Chinese New Year and he had to write about the traditions, when it started, what animal this lunar year was, as well as how long it lasted. Most of the material he translated himself while I corrected his grammar and provided vocabulary he did not know. After he finished his paragraph, I had him read it out loud, and his intonation is getting better. His character writing is also improving, but he could use a little more work on his stroke order when writing characters.
In this class, we talked about the family. We learned the sentence structure "how many people are there in your family". Then they learned to identify different familial terms, such as mother, father, sister and brother. Then we learned to count from one to thirty. I also played their favorite Chinese songs for them.
The student had some homework from school he needed help with. It involved filling in some blanks in two dialogues. I explained what any unknown words meant and guided him to fill the blanks in correctly.
The student was very focused today, which was great to see. He studied for his dictation test and helped write a new sentence that he will copy each day during the week for extra practice. He worked hard in his workbook. I explained that I see my job as helping him become more independent and that he will learn better if he practices finding the answers himself.
We introduced the verb of location "zai" and practice using it when describing the location of objects. We continued to practice pronunciation and tones. We then finished the lesson by testing her listening skills.
Had a great first session with the student! We learned the four tones and PinYin as well as some basic Chinese characters. He did quite well as a beginner. We deed to practice more on the tones and PinYin.
