I have been tutoring as a volunteer position since middle school, when I helped young children at a summer tutoring program organized by Faith Community Church. More recently, I have volunteered at the Westport Boys and Girls Club as well as helping my younger brother with his homework at home.I have attended St. Johns College of Annapolis, a unique liberal arts college with devoted teachers and a focus on person-to-person conversations about the material. I am currently taking time off of school for health reasons and am currently planning the next steps of my education.I aim to help elementary and middle school aged children with Writing, Math, and English, including grammar and reading comprehension. My math skills include Basic Arithmetic, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra as well as Algebra I. I am also skilled in general testing skills and SAT Prep in particular. I can also help with essential computer skills, on Mac or PC, and use of Microsoft applications.I am especially invested in tutoring in math and reading. If learned well, math can teach students to use the information around them in order to understand the world. And reading, if it is not treated like a chore, can open up imagination and possibilities, as well as teaching children ways that people express their experiences. To me, the most important part of tutoring is helping children to understand material in ways that allow them to learn to recognize their strengths and apply them to their studies in ways they may not immediately see. Some keen-eyed students can understand abstract subjects through visual aids, while some may work better with quantifications and variables, even when studying literature. It is important to me that students understand that their unique ways of learning are strengths, and not crutches. I avoid rote memorization whenever possible.Off the clock, I am a devoted reader and a novice poet and writer, as well as a fan of critical analysis of all types of media, especially books and video games. I am also a baker and a fan of nature hikes.

As someone who has been in engineering school for four years now, I have gained extensive knowledge in scientific and mathematical fields as well as a dependency on copious amounts of coffee.During this time I learned something extremely important: We may all learn differently but we usually all make similar mistakes when it comes to learning. At one time I myself greatly struggled with learning topics related to my field. I learned how to overcome my weaknesses and study smarter, not harder. My aim is to pass off the skills I have acquired in college that way others can avoid repeating the mistakes of countless others and have a successful college experience. Success breeds success and a strong start is extremely important to maintain a positive experience and outlook.

I am a first year medical student at Washington University School of Medicine. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2016 with a major in Neuroscience and minors in Mathematics and Biophysics. One of my passions as a future physician include the ability to educate not only patients about their health but also future doctors such as myself.Ever since high school I fell in love with tutoring. After school, I would help friends and classmates with trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus and I loved the feeling of being able to transform a difficult subject in the eyes of a students and watching them develop a curiosity for it rather than view it as an obstacle. In college, I worked as a teaching assistant for Beginning to Intermediate Statistics where I helped students with mathematics as well as programming in R. I also worked as an Observatory Assistant where I taught astronomy students about the science and cultural history of the observable universe.Thank you for looking at my profile and I wish you luck on your academic endeavors!

I am a recent graduate of Stony Brook University where I received my B.S. in Chemistry with concentrations in Chemical Physics and Environmental Chemistry, with a minor in Environmental Studies. Education in all aspects is my passion, and I believe that students who are instilled with problem-solving skills and a drive to take control of their own learning are those who will succeed. I tutor Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus. My favorite subject to tutor is Chemistry because I initially struggled as a high school chemistry student, but instead of giving up, I learned valuable critical thinking skills and a sense of perseverance which resulted in my current goal of obtaining a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Aside from teaching, I enjoy biking, yoga, and traveling. It is important for me to give my students the skills they need to succeed without a tutor so that they can truly learn and understand any subjects they may tackle in the future!

I am a Masters In Teaching Graduate from the University of Washington Seattle for high school math.I am in my 6th year of teaching highschool math and am currently teaching Geometry and AP Statistics; however, I have taught all math classes in the highschool level.I enjoy teaching math to my students, but I mainly like to focus on helping my students develop independent study skills that will support them through life. What this means is building up the analytical skills that they will need to prepare and study for assignments and tests when they're going to go to college. There's only so much one can do in teaching the content that we also need to teach our students how they can become their own teachers and succeed on their own. Hence, I want my students not just to do well in their math classes or exams, but I also want them to be able to grow, so they will always be able to achieve their best on their own even without my help.

My first tutoring experience was actually in the first grade. My dad had taught me how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers before beginning the first grade. Since I was so ahead, I was allowed to tutor 1 student in a special education class. I also tutored in high school and at MIT. I am really good at tutoring because I can break down the subject matter in a multitude of ways and explain it differently each time. Additionally, I am really good at helping students make connections between two seemingly unrelated topics. Lastly, I push students rather hard. I believe in giving them the toughest and spontaneous questions possible. I believe this will help them face any difficult exam question in the future.

Since childhood I've had a passion for teaching and learning math. I started actually competing in math tournaments starting in high school, but even in middle school I would do math for fun. Soon realizing my deep passion for math I ended up going to college for mathematics and now currently work as a Junior Java Developer for BGC Partners. That is a quick summary, but more detail below. In High School, I was very into competitive academics. I was on math team, science team, and even history team. My school was brand new so there weren't many people on the teams, but I always tried to make it more fun for people to come. I learned new math tricks on my own to help my fellow teammates. I ended up being district champion in number sense 2 years in a row and top 3 in mathematics those 2 years as well. Even back in high school I loved to help people with math regardless of what year they were or if it would benefit me or not. Now I usually just tutor math because I hope to maybe become a math teacher or professor in the future! Of course that's not for a while and I would have to do my Phd but I think it would be worth it because I believe teaching others math is amazing and it can truly help someone's future and there is no better feeling than that. More importantly personally I think math is just truly magnificent how these formulas and calculations of an intangible idea somehow explain all the real world.
