Growing up in a place heavily influenced by France and all its culture like Morocco, I developed a new sense of self apart from my African roots. Morocco may be known for its Mediterranean foods, its beautiful architecture and mosaic style and its beautiful beaches and sand dunes of the Sahara but its French influence is hardly ever mentioned. Due to the French colonization of the country, I grew up speaking both French and Arabic and went on to attend private schools under the French educational system. This is where I learned proper French with all its rules and uses as well as proper Arabic.Since I was not obligated and expected to know my grammar and conjugation and all the other aspects of French until I started school, I realized how challenging it really was. However, like everyone else in my class, I pulled through until I graduated high school with a French diploma. I would have never made it through school if it were not for my teachers who gave me ample support and understanding whenever I succeeded and, more importantly, whenever I fell short. They became role models and motivated me to do well and to not give up to not only make them and my parents proud but myself as well. This is the experience that I hope I provide students with. When my own daughters were going through the same French system I went through in Morocco, I helped them with their homework and assignments almost every day until they finally understood it well enough to go through their own by themselves. Of course, I still helped them every now and then but they are now proficient French speakers and know as much grammar, colloquialisms, vocabulary and slang as I do. I even helped out their friends at the time and felt overjoyed at their success- I was very proud. I was a volunteer tutor for over 12 years until I moved my family to Texas. Here, my daughters tested out of the most advanced French classes of their schools but their friends still came to me. This was the time I learned that French is a much more complicated language for English native speakers. There are far more rules and styles in French that are not observed in English, such as gender roles. It took me a little while but I learned to help their friends get the grades they wanted and learn some French along the way. I learned a lot from my students along the way and want to transform my experiences into something I can do every day.I strive to be not only a teacher but a mentor at the same time. To become an educator whose influence is observed outside the classroom- at interviews, jobs, restaurants, parks, conventions, etc. My biggest gain comes from seeing my students do better in school, gain self-confidence and being proud of themselves, as their success is a reflection of both my methods. By teaching a language with which I grew up, I hope to both gain and give new cultural perspectives and share my love for the language.

I received my B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University with a minor in Spanish. I am currently working toward my M.S. in Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine. In college, I worked with a high school student, for his 9th grade year, focusing mostly on his biology and writing assignments. I was a research coordinator at the Marcus Autism center where I worked with very young kids (ages 2-9) with and without learning disabilities. We worked on general school-related skills and any homework they brought. In my master's program, I did a lot of group study. Frequently, this meant teaching a group of my peers who needed to see the material presented in a new way. I love learning and I want to help others love it, too. Throughout my studies, grades never just came easily to me. I was constantly working at getting better and trying to figure out how to solve problems in many different ways. With this type of experience, I want to help other students who may be struggling with a concept to get to a place where they see how fun and rewarding it can be to really understand the material. I tutor a wide variety of topics; however, my favorites are biology and anatomy. Biology is so exciting for me because it is the foundation for all of life, and helps us understand the world we live in. Anatomy is great because you are living in your own cheat sheet (your body)! When I am tutoring, I want to hear or see my students' thought processes. It's great if you can get to the right answer, but truly learning means knowing how you got there. So, I love having my students teach the concepts back to me. Outside of school, I play slow-pitch softball and I love to cook and bake.

I am deeply interested in ethics, and part of my value system is a strong belief in the transformative power of knowledge and wisdom. I aim to one day become a professor of philosophy (particularly ethics), and I am currently in the process of preparing for a joint JD/PhD in Philosophy. Consequently, I am interested in both theoretical and applied ethics. One of my core talents is the ability to convey concepts in multiple ways, and I like to think of studying philosophy as learning how to say complicated things with simple words.

I am currently a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Business Administration. Since 10th grade, I've taken part in tutoring students from underserved areas in STEM-related subjects. Working with non-profits in my area, I was able to help numerous elementary, middle, and high school students learn the fundamentals of science. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about math and computer science. Helping students learn the abstract concepts found in math and computer science have been very rewarding and quite fun. I believe that education is for everyone and that anyone who puts in enough effort can reap the rewards and satisfaction of not only getting a problem right on an exam but develop a lifelong love for learning. Aside from school, I played soccer nearly all of my life and am a HUGE soccer fan. I also love reading about the latest and greatest tech and love to play the newest video games.

I spent the summer of my sophomore year of high school teaching at Sneh-Kunj, a school in India for students with mental disabilities. In the first few weeks at the school, a 10-year old autistic kid who did not utter a single word, but simply sat in the corner and stared off blankly into space wrote:Kill a worthless thought typed in your brainTo welcome a wise onepity the ailing personpity good utterance not understoodIt is worthy to be a wise personthan a foolish ashamed.Until then, I had been looking at this boy with pity, worry, and an inexplicable sense of shame and guilt; therefore, it was an extremely humbling moment for me to realize that I had so completely underestimated his capacity for such profound and beautiful words. I quickly realized that I was just as guilty of the snobbery that I despised in others. Yet, each day my frustrations with the systemic lack of high expectations for these students quickly melted as they proved time and again their ability to learn. My students, for the first time, took pride in their education and realized that even the ability to remember the letters A, B, and C was a monumental achievement. The summer that I spent volunteering in India ignited a passion for education that I had not realized was inside of me.After that summer, I spent the next two years tutoring students in math, science and SAT prep, volunteering at Recording For The Blind and Dyslexic, teaching at Kumon: Math and Reading learning center, and joined Empower the Children, an organization for educational empowerment. In college, I served as a Teaching Assistant for our Introduction to Psychology course and was a private tutor in statistics. Due to my passion for access equal education, I was also a leader of Project Eye to Eye, a national mentoring initiative targeted to those with learning disabilities. These marginalized students taught me about their struggles: the hours of hard work they spent doing what others do in minutes, the discrimination they faced from peers and teachers who mistook their inability as an unwillingness to learn, and the importance of support in their success stories. After college, I spent one year in India on a Fulbright Fellowship teaching English to 6th to 8th grade students at a school for underserved girls. I struggled a lot as a teacher in this environment. I had to witness the underfunded and crumbling infrastructure of the government school, had to overcome a strong language barrier, had to diminish the apathy that my girls felt for the English language, and hardest of all, had to confront the realities of how the struggling lives of my students outside of school influenced their attitudes inside the school walls.Currently I am a rising second year medical student at NYU School of Medicine. I hope to pursue a career in global health, particularly focusing on curable blindness worldwide. Although I am no longer in the classroom, the passion I have for teaching and the personal value I place on education have not left me.

Frequently Asked Questions
A tutor provides personalized feedback on your writing that goes beyond what you might get in a classroom setting. They can work with you on the specific areas where you struggle—whether that's developing a strong thesis, organizing your ideas, strengthening your argumentation, or refining your writing voice. Through one-on-one instruction, tutors help you understand the "why" behind writing conventions, not just the rules, so you can apply these skills to future assignments.
Grammar is the foundation—correct punctuation, sentence structure, and word usage make your writing clear and professional. Style, on the other hand, is about how you express your ideas: your word choice, sentence variety, tone, and voice. A strong essay needs both. Tutors help you master grammar mechanics while also developing your unique writing voice, so your essays are not just correct but engaging and persuasive.
Writer's block often happens when you're trying to write the perfect essay on the first try. Tutors teach strategies like freewriting, outlining before drafting, or breaking the essay into smaller chunks so you're not facing a blank page all at once. They can also help you move from confusion about your topic to a clear thesis statement, which gives you a roadmap for the rest of your writing. Many students find that talking through their ideas with a tutor helps clarify their thinking before they even sit down to write.
Organization is where many essays fall apart. A tutor helps you build a logical structure by identifying your main argument, organizing supporting points, and ensuring each paragraph connects back to your thesis. They teach you how to create outlines that serve as blueprints, how to write topic sentences that guide your reader, and how to use transitions that show the relationship between ideas. With practice and feedback, you'll develop the ability to organize complex arguments clearly on your own.
Yes. Citation formatting can feel overwhelming, but tutors break it down into manageable pieces. Whether you need help with MLA, APA, or Chicago style, a tutor can show you how to cite sources correctly and help you understand the purpose behind proper attribution. They also help you integrate quotes and paraphrased material smoothly into your essay so citations feel natural rather than awkward—and your arguments stay strong.
Literary analysis requires you to move beyond just understanding what happened in a text to understanding how and why the author created meaning. Tutors help you develop close reading skills—identifying literary devices, understanding themes, and analyzing character motivation. They then guide you in translating these observations into a coherent argument with specific textual evidence. This turns your analysis into a compelling essay that shows deeper engagement with the material.
Revision is where good essays become great ones. Rather than trying to fix everything at once, tutors teach you to revise in layers: first looking at big-picture issues like thesis clarity and argument strength, then moving to paragraph organization and transitions, and finally polishing grammar and style. They also help you develop self-editing skills so you can evaluate your own work critically. With this strategic approach, you'll learn to revise efficiently and see real improvement in your writing.
