College Math Tutoring FAQ
A wide variety of math courses are offered at the college level, and Varsity Tutors can help connect you with a high-quality tutor specializing in every one of them. Whether you are taking college algebra, pre-calculus, the calculus course series, matrix algebra, differential equations, statistics, probability, or any number of other college math courses, our educational directors can help you connect with a talented tutor who can help you strengthen your grasp of the material. College math tutoring services are available to you regardless of your age or level of mathematics, from your first college math class to advanced courses for mathematics majors. The graduation requirements at many institutions demand that you complete coursework in at least one mathematics course in college. Due to the vast number of concepts in college math and the rigorous pace of college-level coursework, you may find yourself lost in a math class at some point during your college career. Thankfully, an outstanding tutor can help you excel in your college math courses.
The educational directors at Varsity Tutors are standing by to help you create a personal student profile. The profile can then be viewed by tutors all over the world. They can quickly identify whether they can help you, as they can view your current syllabus, learning style, scheduling, course concerns, and other pertinent details that can help to locate the ideal tutor for you. Your hand-picked college math tutor is able to provide the individualized attention you may need to ensure that you are learning in your courses. It is imperative to your success in future math classes that you gain a solid understanding of the various concepts you will learn. Further, you can get additional support in preparation for an exam, completing a class project, or another task you may face.
Many students in challenging math classes find that they can benefit from the individualized attention afforded by one-on-one tutoring, either in-person or through face-to-face online sessions. Instead of struggling through impersonal class lectures and group-based study sessions, you are the main focus of each and every meeting with your college math tutor. Private tutoring also allows you to avoid the potential complications that arise when attempting to tackle challenging math concepts all by yourself. In fact, many students find that such self-guided study can actually cause further frustration and lead to unintended gaps in understanding. No matter what college-level math course you are taking, a talented tutor can help to identify the areas that require the most guidance and can provide targeted practice to advance your proficiency in those areas by leaps and bounds. Most math teachers and students can attest to the fact that concepts in math tend to build upon one another, meaning that falling behind in your understanding of any one topic may lead to further difficulties as the course progresses. With an exceptional college math tutor, you can receive clarification on every concept, big or small, all at your own pace, and prevent the common pitfalls that cause many students to trail behind in college math courses.
Your personal tutor will work with you to assess your strengths and weaknesses. They use this knowledge to further customize their lesson plan for you. The plan reflects your needs and goals, whatever they may be, and is designed to keep you firmly on the right path. You can spend as much or as little time as you need on each concept to succeed. Working with a talented tutor can represent the quickest and easiest way to solidify your understanding of your college math coursework. Give our educational directors a call today and let us help you connect with a college math tutor in your area!

Recent College Math Tutoring Session Notes
During our first session we reviewed previous material from his first week of class. We completed chapter 10: reviewed concepts in each section and did representative example and practice problems. The goal is to improve the students confidence in regards to approaching problems and knowing how to systematically solve them. His 2nd quiz is this Friday on Chapter 11. As long as he remains calm and thinks through the problem while solving, I anticipate him performing better than his 1st assessment.
We covered 1 assignment and 3/4 of another today. The student wants to brush up on his math skills which is understandable as he hasn't taken a math course in 7 years. I would recommend that he schedules a few more sessions per week to give him the opportunity to review the things he has forgotten and to finish up all the assignments he has to complete.
The tutor reviewed basic concepts with the students according to the review sheet for the class. The students and the tutor also worked through problems from the study guides. He helped students with the problems that covered the concepts of normal distribution, mean, median, mode, standard deviations, variance, etc.
The student was preparing to take two final exams for the semester, specifically in his math classes. We took time to review some of the problems from his final exam. He also had other questions he had to answer from a writing class. I gave some advice on the problems as well as the written questions he needed to answer. He sent me other problems later on in the evening and the next day.
We covered 90% of homework on 1.1: evaluating functions, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing fractions, finding the domain and word problem applications of functions. He was able to complete most if it himself with only a few questions and a few small errors that he spotted when I mentioned them.
Student had an excellent grasp of current material being studied and reviewed for upcoming test. Had her practice each subject she was currently reviewing and she was able to solve with both speed and correctness. Worked ahead by incorporating other knowledge into practice problems and once explained she understood how to solve and reach answers quickly.
