Bradford CLEP American Government Tutoring FAQ
An American government class during your freshman year of college might seem like a waste of time if you took a more advanced government class in high school. If you have the knowledge already, you can get credits for an introductory undergraduate class after a 90-minute test by taking the American Government exam through the College Level Examination Program. Over 2,900 schools accept CLEP credits, and taking the American Government test can allow you to bypass your school's introductory government course. While the exam covers the curriculum of a standard introductory class, the knowledge required to get a high enough score to obtain course credit is neither basic nor simple.
The CLEP American Government exam requires a deep knowledge of the United States Constitution, political theory, American political history, the processes of the federal government, and the role of interest groups. The exam is composed of 100 multiple-choice questions in just 90 minutes, leaving little time to analyze the material with basic test-taking strategies. To achieve an exceptional score on the CLEP American Government exam, you need to know everything you can about the American government and public policy, as well as have accurate expectations of the question formats and typical presentations. Brushing up on the entirety of the American political system is a task that can be nearly impossible while working alone. To get the adequate, focused review that you need, consider the possibilities available through CLEP American Government tutoring. Varsity Tutors can help you connect with extraordinary educators, many of whom hold advanced degrees in history, political science, and other social sciences from some of the most well-known colleges and universities in the country. Your tutor's knowledge can be your special advantage in preparing for the CLEP American Government exam.
Every session you have with your tutor is conducted in a one-on-one environment, allowing your instructor to share with you the strategies and academic content that may benefit you most. CLEP American Government tutors are available to meet with you in person, or you can schedule a face-to-face online tutoring session. Your entire tutoring curriculum can be developed especially for you by your tutor, based on your individual strengths and weaknesses with the exam's material. With this approach, you can get a highly individualized review rather than the one-size-fits-all options offered in a classroom or group review session. You can ask as many questions as you need to ensure that you fully comprehend the subject material. This ability to ask questions and receive immediate feedback is often not possible in traditional classroom environments, and unique to one-on-one tutoring.
Regardless of the areas of American government that you struggle with, a private tutor can help you overcome your learning obstacles and succeed on the CLEP test. If you struggle to remember the specifics of the U.S. Constitution, your tutor can help develop your memorization skills to hammer out the salient details of the government's guiding document. If you have problems understanding the cause-and-effect nature of politics in America, your tutor can work with you on boosting analytical skills. Or perhaps you need a refresher on the roles that each branch of the American government plays in maintaining a balanced and orderly society. Not a problem. Your tutor is there to offer you their expertise and strategies so you can ace the exam.
The CLEP American Government test is a great opportunity to get college credits, but you have to make sure you are prepared for it. An excellent way to get prepared is with CLEP American Government tutoring, so call Varsity Tutors today and let us help you connect with a personal tutor.

Recent Bradford CLEP American Government Tutoring Session Notes
The student and I spent the first portion of our session reviewing her multiplication tables, an area in which she has shown a huge amount of improvement. We then practiced measuring items and converting inches to feet, centimeters to millimeters, and ounces to pounds. She slowly is getting the hang of measurements, but the more real-life practice she has, the faster she will master the topic.
The student took her first full math diagnostic today. She is a smart girl and applies herself well, but little mistakes and difficulty comprehending the questions are holding her back. Those areas will be our focus moving forward.
Today we spent time discussing test anxiety and ways of framing and reducing stress that accompanies test-taking. Then we worked on math problems, and I assigned the subject for homework.
The student and I started the session by reviewing the idea of critical thinking. I introduced the strategy of reflection, reasons, and alternatives. I thought this would help him remember what he needed to do to think critically. I had him read two passages and answer three sets of questions -- one for each passage and one set on both passages. He did very well on the first set because he was using all of his strategies. He read the questions first, took his time reading and answering the questions, highlighted key ideas, and read the questions and answers carefully. He only got one question wrong. On the second and third sets, he was not completely employing the strategies, so he got more answers incorrect. We discussed this, and he understood where he slipped up. I think this realization will help ingrain in him how important his strategies are.
Today the girls completed a practice test. I proctored the exam as if it were an actual test. At the end of the session, I scored the exams and gave them a raw score. We need to focus on sentence-completion and quantitative-reasoning strategies. I asked the girls to focus on summer reading to boost their verbal ability.
The student and I reviewed the SAT essay she wrote the previous week. After reading sample graded essays, we evaluated her own essay and noted her strengths and areas for improvement. She would benefit from the inclusion of vocab words and more complex and varied sentence structure. We chose another essay prompt and began formulating a thesis sentence.
