I am a graduate of Brown University with a BA in Applied Mathematics. I'm an emerging Software Developer with a passion for math. I've spent three years as a tutor in BC Calculus for Brown students. Furthermore, I have experience working at Huntington Learning Center in Brooklyn, where I tutored in English, Math, Phonics, and SAT Math. Teaching is a great responsibility, as the quality of a teacher can profoundly impact a student's relationship with education, which has downstream effects on their future career and life. I am a graduate of Linfield College and a certified secondary ELA and middle level math teacher. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and reach their potential in and out of the classroom. My experience includes teaching 6-9th grade math in Oregon middle schools as well as student teaching and aiding in both English and mathematics classrooms. Some of my personal favorite topics to teach are narrative and argumentative writing, algebra I, and pre-algebra.With the impact of COVID-19 on students around the world, it is more important than ever that students enjoy and feel confident about learning. I approach tutoring with three primary goals: increasing student agency, empowering students with a love of learning, and improving academic skills and confidence.I always start by asking what students hope to get out of our sessions and what questions or topics they want to address. I provide examples, challenges, supports, and modeling as needed to adapt to each student. Giving students the power to guide their learning builds independence and empowers students. I hope students leave sessions feeling accomplished and excited about their learning experience.

I am a recent graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelors of Science and Engineering (BSE) in Chemical Engineering. I was selected as the outstanding graduate for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and have extensive math, physics, and writing experience. I recently applied and was accepted to many top-ten PhD programs for engineering because of academic merit and personal statement writing skills. I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.I have tutoring experience in most math subjects through the National Honors Society and have been a teaching assistant in higher-level engineering courses such as thermodynamics, chemical processing, and lab courses. As a lab teaching assistant I have a high level of experience with technical writing help. I have also been a teaching assistant for a humanities course, The Human Event. This class was focused on analyzing literature and communicating ideas through writing essays.I am a motivated student who loves helping others. I am a current student attending graduate school at Columbia University. I graduated from Yale University in 2011 and upon graduation, joined Teach for America, a non-profit organization whose mission is is to help close the current opportunity gap that exists in classrooms across the U.S. I taught 1st 2nd and 3rd grade for three years and while teaching, earned a Master's Degree in Education. In addition to being a classroom certified teacher, I have also tutored older students in SAT test preparation, as well as classroom content such as calculus and physics. I tutor a wide range of subjects, ranging from elementary education to high school Mathematics, science and Spanish. I enjoy teaching and my work is about my students, who have the potential to achieve at the highest levels, and their parents, who want the best for them. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, watching/playing sports (especially basketball, which I played in college!), skiing, and knitting.

I graduated from Harvard College with High Honors in Romance Languages and Literatures, having worked mostly on contemporary Brazilian poetry but also having done graduate work in Spanish. After finishing at Harvard, I moved back to the Valley of the Sun to be with my family and started work on a M.S. in Psychology with a focus on Psychology and Law. My current academic interest is how non-native English speakers interact with the justice system here in AZ. Law school is in my futuremore than likelybut I'm enjoying my time at home and getting to explore questions of interest to me.My tutoring expertise lies mostly in the domain of standardized test preparation (SAT, PSAT, ACT, LSAT, GRE, AP). I studied by myself with only the study aids that are available on the market for every standardized test that I teach. While this isn't a great strategy for everyone, I find that my knowledge of the tests and the best study materials/methods is far deeper after having gone through all the work by myself than if I had had help. I know what doesn't work, but more importantly I know what does. It's my job to make your life easier by sparing you all the frustration I experienced!Standardized tests are a game. Working on a graduate degree in Psychology has certainly helped me get into the minds of the psychometricians who make these tests. There are a number of strategies beyond just the test material that I work on with those whom I tutor to ensure their best performance come test day. It is my goal that each of my students believes that he couldn't have performed any better when he finishes the exam. The worst feeling is regretting your performance. With adequate preparation and the right techniques, every student can be proud of how she tested!

I am a Ph.D. student at UNC Chapel Hill in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with degrees in mathematics and statistics, and a minor in computer science. While I tutor a broad range of subjects in those disciplines, I am most passionate about Computer Programming and Data Science, as I use these subjects in my own research as a grad student and write about them on my Medium blog. I have worked with several college and grad students, and have found a lot of success with active learning. I am a big proponent of scientific communication, and am passionate about making math and science accessible to all.
