The student and I reviewed her chemistry review packet, reviewing wave equations, conversions and scientific notation, significant figures, naming chemical compounds, balancing chemical equations, quantum numbers, electron orbitals, and energy levels.

The student and I continued work on preparing for her final. She consulted a test bank for her course for practice problems, and we worked through problems that she wanted to go over. Topics included drawing the mechanism for peptide bond hydrolysis as catalyzed by a serine protease, conservative mutations, drawing the structure of polymerized nucleotides, describing various assays (including SDS-PAGE and sandwich ELISA), the role of cofactors in enzyme catalysis, and the features of various categories of enzyme catalysis and various categories of enzyme inhibition.

The student and I reviewed one of her previous tests to begin the session. The concepts included interpreting net ionic equations, understanding structural isomers, understanding solubility rules, and elements of VSEPR Theory. We then moved on to a new section from her class. We covered topics on enthalpy. We also went into detail on coffee cup calorimeters. The student came into the session very spirited and eager to learn. I continued to tell her to be thorough in her problem solving because it seems she understands the material very well; she only needs to check her work.

The student and I met to discuss his strategies moving forward in classes. We discussed college search strategies in detail. I showed him large search engines. I urged him to create a list of 25-35 schools that look worth researching further, keeping track of the questions he used to generate the list.

Today the student and I worked over a practice test for his final on Monday. Specifically we went over forces, force diagrams, additions of forces, friction, forces applied at angles, and blocks on slopes. This was all review and he is certainly doing quite well. He occasionally stumbled when discerning whether or not a net force is present in constant velocity problems. I'm confident that he will do very well.

During this session we went over various practice problems in preparation for the student's Friday test. We spent a lot of time looking at Lewis structures that break the octet rule and how to draw out resonance structures. She seemed well prepared for her test and I expect her to do well.
