We reviewed graphs of linear equations. We looked at the x values and plugged them into the equation to find the y values. Then we graphed the points and connected the dots. We found slopes and average rates of change. Moreover, we graphed scatter plots using a table. We also learned how to write domains and ranges of graphs in interval notation. We also wrote intervals of functions when they are increasing or decreasing. The student understood most of the concepts after I explained them, even though she was struggling initially. I asked her to review addition and subtraction of integers.

We have covered a review for the student's final and went over an exam he took. The review covered trig functions, and graphing trig functions. He had a good understanding on the new materials such as trig functions but needs improvement in the materials that were covered before I started working with him. His grade has increased from a D to a B.

Today, we covered multi-step problems specifically and whole-part problems. The student struggled a bit with the problems that had 3 or more steps and involved multiplying larger numbers, so that will be my main focus for our next session. She is getting quicker at catching her mistakes, which is an improvement, and her division skills are only getting better. She is flying through dividing by single numbers, so I think she is ready to move up to dividing by double digit numbers. Even though she let me know that she has yet to cover this area of math in her class, I think she is ready to move to the next level in division.

We went over the student's recent exam on logarithms and exponential functions. I guided him through making corrections. I noticed that he has a good grasp of most of the material. His most common mistakes were rounding errors and improperly cancelling parts of equations. We will continue to work on them. He clearly suffers from test anxiety, and I advised him on a couple simple exercises he can do in preparation for or in the midst of an exam, including calming and centering himself through focused breathing.
