Samiksha
Certified Tutor
Hi! My name is Samiksha, and I am a student at Saint Louis University studying Computer Science. I have tutored many students before of all ages and in a wide variety of subjects. I have completed a math education up to Calculus II (and just started learning Calculus III - therefore all the math is fresh in my head) and can tutor in all the sciences. I have taken multiple AP tests recently during high school. I can aid not only in the content of these tests, but also test taking strategies and tricks that have helped me get high scores on AP tests. Additionally, I can tutor you for the ACT. Since the ACT tests your test-taking strategies over content/knowledge, I believe that the strongest way of approaching this test is by learning strategies.
As a student myself, I have realized that the best way to ace tests and classes is by being confident. This is only possible if we understand the concepts rather than memorizing (especially in subjects such as math and science). Whenever I tutor, I always aim to build strong personal relationships with my students by listening and communicating with them. I try to personalize learning to suits each student's learning-style and teach to their strengths to make them more confident, alongside improving any weaknesses. I am extremely patient and confident with the subjects I have marked. I truly care about my student and want him/her to succeed not only in their current classes but in future classes as well.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in tutoring students by providing a fun, comfortable, student-centered environment. I always encourage asking questions because I believe that it aids the most in the learning process.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would first introduce myself by telling the student a little bit about my background and experiences. This way, the student will feel comfortable with asking me questions and sharing any problems they have. In the first few sessions, I would also try to figure out the student's style of learning, which will help me transform tutoring sessions into those styles (e.g. visual, auditory, etc.).
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will teach the student proper studying habits and qualities, such as being organized and being able to manage his/her time. I will also focus primarily on clearing confusing concepts, which will build a good foundation for the student for future classes and subjects.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I want to create a friendly-environment and allow the student to be in control. I believe this will allow them to feel comfortable as well as be motivated to try harder. I will always encourage and praise him/her.
