Florida, FL Geometry tutoring
Today we worked on areas and volumes of prisms, pyramids, cones, and spheres. The student is good at plugging numbers into formulas, but I would like to see him have a stronger grasp on the concepts of volume and surface area for some of the more difficult shapes. We will continue to work on this.

Today we worked on: -Tangents to circles, -determining the segment length , -finding the perimeter of each polygon, -finding the measure indicated, -inscribed angles, and -finding the measurement of the arc or angle (solving for x and y). Today's lesson was a challenging one for both students. They had problems understanding congruent triangles and the tangent line. In the next lesson, we will continue further with the above material so they can be able to understand it.

Today, I continued to review some Algebra 1 concepts with the student. We did properties of exponents - simplifying expressions involving exponents. We also used FOIL and the distributive property to multiply polynomials. Synthetic division was a new concept for him, but he got a head start on this, as he will be required to know this in Algebra 2. I also introduced geometric and arithmetic sequences, which he had not seen before. We did factor a bit and will continue to work on that. I am using an Algebra Common Core test to see what he remembers. He starts school next week.

Today, I first introduced the student to Geometry terms, including points, line segments, rays, lines, and congruent. We then continued on to angles, including supplementary and vertical angles. Finally, I went over parallel lines. We went over online problems for each concept. The material seemed to be review for her, as she had little trouble handling it. I will make sure to cover more challenging concepts next session.

Today, I introduced the student to the unit circle. We began the session with a review of circles, emphasizing degree measures of angles, segments, and arcs. We then reviewed right triangle trigonometry and special right triangles. We combined the two topics into an overview of the unit circle. I emphasized how the unit circle combines many topics that he has already learned in order to find sine, cosine, and tangents of common angles. He had never used radians before, so we also spent some time discussing how to relate radians to degrees. We also discussed how to convert negative angles to their positive equivalents. For homework, I asked him to complete 9 problems in which he is given an angle and must use the unit circle to find sine, cosine, and tangent.
