Today, I met with the student, to help her with Algebra. She missed a day of school and needed someone to show her how to simplify expressions with radicals. She is a quick learner and understood the concepts very quickly. We went over her homework together and got her caught up.

The student and I worked on an essay focusing on using persuasive techniques to argue why Macs are a superior choice to PCs. I reviewed and revised her essay, and helped her come up with an introduction and conclusion using her ideas. We then reviewed chemistry, focusing on the periodic table and properties of atoms. It was a good session.

The first student had just taken a test in Math. We worked on systems of equations problems, of which some had been on the test. Working through these problems became a good review for dealing with negative numbers in all operations, solving for the unknown, and sequencing through the multiple steps. The second student and I worked on finding 'e' words for a rap assignment in noun, verb, adjective forms, and practicing spelling & pronouncing them. We also went through her math homework: defined factors, GCF's, and simplifying fractions. A good exercise.

The student read her book out loud. There were some words she did not know, so she sounded them out. I wrote them down so that I would make flashcards for her for tomorrow. We choral read together after she read the first time. She used her finger to follow the book. She answered her homework questions. We went over her spelling words, and she wrote them for me three times each.

We worked on a few examples, some in pseudocode and some in full JAVA implementation, and ran them on the compiler for testing.

The student had a lot of science and math homework this week. We looked for details throughout his science textbook chapter. We then used visuals to aid with the math problems. He did a great job deciphering the word problems.
